Heavy Intercessors

With the leaked Table of Contents for the next SM Codex out, looks like a new Troops option will be Heavy Intercessors.

Based on Intercessors = Primaris Tac Marines and Assault Intercessors = Primaris Assault Marines (without JPs), then I assume that Heavy Intercessors are basically a kind of generic Primaris Devastators (with Hellblasters, Eliminators, Suppeessors, and Eradicators kind of being more specialized Primaris Weapon squads).

If this theory is true, very interesting that GW basically made Primaris Troop equivalents of all 3 "baseline" Oldmarine types (i.e Tactical, Assault, Devastator).

In terms of load out, I expect Heavy Intercessors to have something like a Heavy Bolter each, to differentiate them from normal Intercessors and the plasma wielding Hellblasters, melta wielding Eradicators, autocannon wielding Suppressor, etc.

I think it'll likely be a dev equivalent as you said.

And i seriously hope the heavy bolt rifle we saw on the new captain is one of their weapons as a primaris HB equivalent. For the totally selfless reason that i'd like some kind of primaris heavy weapon i can use the IF bonuses on (onslaught this, onslaught that, mph) :tongue.:

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's beginning to feel like over saturation to me, potentially that gives us 5 troops choices for Primaris with Assault Intercessors and Heavies. I'm guessing it's so they can cover all bases for the likes of DA, SW and BA options and flesh them out with mini dexs. This is turning into an odd edition for me.

I'm actually doing that right now the Spearhead detachment while I can pick up cheap Eradicators and Inceptors. :D

I don't understand what the benefit of these guys would be without Gravis, they might as well otherwise just give the regular Intercessors a 4th bolt rifle option. And then what benefit does the Heavy Bolt Rifle offer that isn't already there with other primaris infantry choices?

I admit I'm also confused what Heavy Intercessors are supposed to be for. Bolt rifles and stalker rifles already like to stand still and shoot, and are already quite good. Armor-wise, Intercessors are already heavier than most other Troops out there. So unless they're just one-upping the existing Intercessor kit, I don't really understand what niche these guys will fill.

Bruh. They’re suppose to look cool. That is all. And those of us who are idiots, cuz I absolutely am, are willing to pay just for cool models.

If I would speculate I would guess that the heavy bolt rifle is 1 shot s5 with some special rule that allows them to shoot more if they fulfill some criteria. The stats will be the same as the eradicators.

Eradicators are in gravis armour. Heavy intercessors will be in regular power armour.

If they took heavy bolter stats and primarisised(?) them, we'd get maybe heavy 3, S5, AP-2, 1D. Maybe an extra shot, or extra pip of strength or +1D (money's on the damage).

Better backfield objective holders than the stalkers?

Heavy 3 S5 Ap-2 D2 imho. On a classic Intercessor statline.

Maybe only Heavy 2 if they want to make them cheaper.

There is no basis for that the heavy intercessors would be in regular power armor or have the same stat line as them Instead we have pictures and a newly released unit pointing to the opposite..

Eradicators; Games_Workshop-Warhammer_40000_Ed9-Indom

Note that Eradicators have the same kit bags and a boltpistol in holster like the intercessors and have tehe mk x gravis keyword.

That is the same Armour, Gravis.  Note the cables on the backside of the legs, the armoured greaves, boots and helmet. They even look to be on a 40mm base.

The heavy bolt rifle looks to have a box magazine and a scope, I don't think it will invalidate the intercessors boltrifle. For it to not do that it can't have higher ROF than autobolt rifles, boltrifles and not more damage than the stalker.
