Indomitus as a starter ?

Hi everyone!

 

As many of you I am sure, I got a copy of Indomitus and am on undecided whether I keep the Necrons or not. Its such a good deal! 

 

My question is, does what comes in the box constitute a good starter ? 

 

What would one seek to buy next, aiming for say for a 1k to 1.5k army?

Well....If you want to go to one 1k, you build the box and paint it.

Indomitus is 995 points of Necrons :lol:

 

To get to 1.5k.... That's on the other Necron players to tell you, but Indomitus is all you need for a 1k army

It's a great starter for a Necron army just because of the amount of plastic & variety of units you get for the price. Probably best to wait to expand it beyond 1k until the codex & other shiny units draw closer

Indomitus is indeed an excellent source of Necron models (myself having just picked one up yesterday), but it is unfortunately not able to be fielded all at once except in an unbound detachment or a double patrol, as there are too many HQ's to make it work otherwise, or without a lot more troops choices. Not to worry, though, Indomitus is a great core start, with some good close-in punch and durability, as well as some paint scheme variety potential.

 

If you feel like getting them painted in the next couple of months, my fellow Moderatii NTaW is running an event to paint up your Necrons, the Royal Awakening, which I encourage everyone to participate in.

 

As a note of inquiry, where are you getting the 995 point value from, Gederas? I've not been able to find it.

Both are good choices but take a good look at the tomb blades. They're fairly durable. Also the triarch praetorians, this is a unit that is scarey, still. They work really good and their weapon is great for both cc and shooting. Ultimately, mixing in with the new stuff is a hard choice. Mine is praetorians. Let us know what you decide, either way you can't go wrong.

I would hold off on heavy destroyers for now, there are new models coming. Safe additions to what Indomintus gives you would be: Tomb Blades, Wraiths, Triarch Stalkers, Ghost Arks, and Doomsday Arks. Those are all models we can safely bet are not getting redone and would add to what you've already go nicely.

Same for Doom/Night Scythes, they're "safe" buys too.

 

I'll second holding off on HDs for now unless you absolutely love the old kits. The new Lokhust Heavy Destroyers will undoubtedly replace them.

Seeing as Indomitus gives you 2 units of 10 Warriors, getting a squad of Immortals is not a bad choice as you then have 3 Troops units which gives you a legal Battalion. They are not among the really old Necron units and probably won't be replaced anytime soon. It might be worth waiting until the new Codex comes out before deciding whether to build them with Gauss or Tesla though.

 

Beyond that, Tomb Blades are very good (Basically 2 Immortals strapped together on a rocket ). Wraiths are good certainly as are Destroyers, maybe hold off the Heavy Destroyers until the new models come out (undoubtedly with new rules).

It seems I have a decent amount of necrons to start with by combining Indomitus with the stuff from Forgebane, which has been in its box for years. I've now built the Immortals so that I have a third troop choice and the Cryptek because he's quite fun. I might hold off on building the Wraiths and elite guys till I see the codex, as I don't know which weapons etc. I'll want. There's plenty I could paint before then anyway.

I got lucky...my local store had an outrider box. I had to swoop it up.

im am new to necrons but I read a goonhammer and a glasshammer necron strategy post. I was under the assumption from them that 6 man units was a thing.

 

If not i think the 5 to 6 model in a unit seems sound. Just because the flyer and fallback and shoot is nerfed. Theres a lot of fast snaring units to look out for
