nice idea, means people can enter the hobby at a level that is manageable for them.

It would be nicer if there was a single faction way to do so. New players have to start two armies, which makes sense if no one in the area plays. But if there’s an established gaming community, you only need one army.

To add on, there really isn't anything here that I want. But that's totally fine.

It makes sense as to why they did Indomitus. What someone already in the hobby wants and what someone entering into the game needs are not the same thing.

Someone completely new would want a rulebook, some terrain, rulers, dice and some models. Someone already in just wants the new rulebook and the models.

The terrain from the Recruit and Elite boxes does seem to be cardboard rather than plastic, I am right?

Huh, so it seems the manager at my local GW was spot-on with these

Also, bladeguard and eradicators aside, Indomitus was full of characters. Will these be disappear forever like the ones from Dark Imperium now that Indomitus is gone? down.gif

The Indomitus ones are exclusive to that box I think, thus the demand for it.

I'd be shocked if Dark Imperium's characters didn't appear in a Primaris/Death Guard Start Collecting(!) soon though, since I don't think they ever said anything about those being exclusive.

Well, in the "New Models coming" teaser, we saw what is unmistakably a Death Guard character with a cloak.

Dark Imperium had 3 Marine Characters, 3 Death Guard characters. Of those six, only the Captain in Gravis, Primaris Ancient, Malignant Plaguecaster* and Noxious Blightbringer haven't gotten a (widely available) separate release.

I can definitely see them becoming single, multipart characters later on.

*The Plaguecaster did, but it's in Space Marine Heroes 3

This is interesting. I've been wondering if we'll see multipart versions of the outriders and assault intercessors. It seems to me that the squads that fit completely on a single sprue like that don't really need to be created as multipart kits. I wouldn't be surprised if they just released a box with the outriders in at some point, for example.

There were models in Dark Imperium that never got an independent release. The Primaris ancient, for example. I think that was on the equivalent of the same sprue with all the squad leaders, lieutenants and so on.

I could be extrapolating too much though. It's entirely possible they just designed the intercessors, outriders, necron warriors etc. to be on their own sprues so they could go into starter sets like this. In that case it wouldn't have much bearing on whether they were going to be replicated in future. The intercessors, inceptors and hellblasters in Dark Imperium all did get their own kits eventually.

They'll all get Multiparts. The Bladeguard show this.

The ones on the single sprues are going to be in the starter boxes from here on out, but the Multipart ones are necessary because we can get wargear options (however minor) and different poses.

Plus: Do you really think GW will make players who want more have to cut off shoulder pads to use their own chapter iconography?

But that's the thing - Dark Imperium exclusives were not that bad because you could always go to ebay or buy DI. With Indomitus being gone, bye bye exclusives, much like that nice 6th edition Dark Vengeance limited chaplain. It's one thing with Indomitus chaplain because there is theoretically a (worse looking) replacement, but Ancient and Hourglass dude offer functionality no other unit has and are kinda hard to convert to boot.

I also wanted to point out that new starters have much worse value than old ones thanks to extreme repetition on repeated buys, but on second though, you can convert all useless spare shield characters into bladeguards, somewhat alleviating that aspect. Maybe even use relic shield for Indomitus banner conversion...

Really hoping the recruit edition is just $40 dollar like First Strike is. I just want the Lieutenant and the Assault Intercessors.

No word on individual ETB Bladeguard or any other ETB stuff. Kinda disappointed

Really hoping the multipart Bladeguard are not ridiculously priced. $50 dollars for 3 Eliminators is ridiculous. Hopefully it's a five man squad for $50 or like 3 for $40 or $35.

Elite edition is perfect for me, I want more bikes and this seems like an easy way to get a good chunk of them. Only problem is that I will end up with several of these captains but you can always convert them into bladeguard squad leaders specially now that the full kit is coming soon.

I like these a lot.

Brilliant concept - especially as you can hypothetically move through from one to the next in a more linear way, with each appearing to expand on the experience and options each time. I can definitely see this as a great entry point with a clear progression for new players or hobbyists!

Yeah, I'm good with a fairly uniform looking army, so the idea of having all of my sgt's have the same pose is fine with me.  a bit of conversion with some of the bits and a helmet swap or two is enough to make them work for me.  Depending on the size of the outrider squads, I can see myself buying at least 2 elite and one recruit boxes of these to go with my 1 indomitus box.  That would be 9 bikes, 25 assault intercessors, and 6 "bladeguard" made up of the actual bladeguard squad the 2 extra captains and the 1 extra primaris lieutenant.  A great start, probably for a great price, once you sell or trade the necron halves!

Seems like a pretty tempting deal. That terrain is pretty stylish, and besides the hq there's nothing in there i'd mind having multiples of. Anyone know offhand the usual dimensions for those card battle mats?

I have no interest in 40K 9th Edition (yes, I'm aware of the irony here), but I do want a box of the new Necron Warriors and Assault Intercessors for Kill Team-type things, so GW appears to have read my mind with the Recruit Edition (I'm assuming it will be cheaper than 2 boxes). :)

It would be nicer if there was a single faction way to do so. New players have to start two armies, which makes sense if no one in the area plays. But if there’s an established gaming community, you only need one army.

Don't forget the 2 faction boxes give the possibility of sibling vs sibling and parent vs child play. :)  (there's a reason is pretty common practice)

It was one of those "blink and you miss it" moments. But when they were flipping through pages, it showed three Intercessors, one of the new "Heavy Intercessors" in Blood Angels colours, and an Assault Intercessor in Dark Angels colours. The Assault Intercessor is in a pose none of the ones in Indomitus have.

For me i think getting an elite and a command box would be perfect, 10 man squad of assault intercessors, 6 bikes, 1 HQ and a spare, 2 mat's with some terrain and a box building. a spare rules book, because one will get coffee rings on it and a free mini Necron army of the same size.

I concur that surely we'll get a 'crusade' start collecting with the jumbled sprues? One each for marines and crons. Otherwise the reanimator was available in Indomitus only.

Time will tell but I can't see them just doing a sprue run for Indomitus and that being it.

I agree, but I also keep thinking, ‘well you know, they did produce more Indomitus boxes than Dark Imperium and they’ve had an open order window for a couple weeks’. So the sprue run for Indomitus will end up being HUGE.

All special Primaris troops are sold in boxes of three and reasonably priced at 50$. This way they are more precious to you. Except Suppressors, cause apparently censored.gif those guys.

I hope the bikes aren’t ETB only as a Ravenwing or White Scars army would look crazy repetitive.
