How do you spray your Aeronautica Imperialis?

Recommended Posts

I'm asking because I don't want to ruin the clear flight stand. My vague thought is blu-tacking the bases with upside-down planes for a black spray (for metallics), then spraying the top of the plane white to make Contrast easy... but I'd love to hear how you guys did yours

i put mine onto toothpicks with a bit of blu tack and stuck em into a small box top or the corner of a larger one, that way i could angle the box in my hand to spray the whole model from any angle..it works and when its dry you can touch up if the blu tack covered anywhere near the stand hole.

I've just been holding them in my (gloved) fingers and spraying them with an airbrush.  Thankfully, the super-thin paint is basically dry when it hits the model, so you don't get finger-print or drying issues. :smile.:

If you're worried about ruining the flight stand, you should have a fair few of the clear plastic pegs as spares, so you could use one of those as a sacrificial mount for painting? (maybe paint it black or something so it's really obvious which one to use)

Nothing fancy here. I've just put them in a box and sprayed the top, then turned them over when that's dry and done the underneath.

You get twice as many sticks as you need. You could attach a few of them to a stick or something and put planes on those to spray. I'm actually a big fan of GW's spray stick for spraying models with bases.

It looks like you've got some good suggestions already, but I might as well chip in! I tried stretching cling film over the stands and bases. it just about protected them and allowed the aircraft to fit on the stands.

It worked a bit but in the end I found it easier to use some stunt stands from other kits and the bits box that I didn't mind getting paint on, though that may not be an option for everyone. I was a bit obsessive and sprayed each aircraft one at a time rather than as a line of models.
