New GK standard army list

Pictures in spoiler.

Very curious list. Came third in the GT Tournament, while having no paladins, but a lot of terminators. Positively thrilled to see 3 GMNDK's. Discuss.

I'm not sure how well the TO over there screen player points, but this could be a simple typo. Or it could be the player was using the non updated points and forgot to update those. And if it isn't, only what it takes is to remove the armament of the third GMNDK to make it legal. There are many options how that can make it such as well. What matters is that we have another list that works out reasonably well competitively, that doesn't resort to the Paladin Bomb of 8th. Anyone else seeing the beauty of that idea?

@Valerian, yes, it was him - the link to the article was included in the spoiler for some odd reason, sorry!

There was a discussion about this on the Warhammer 40k: Grey Knights group on Facebook and in conclusion this guy only used GK because they were meta and interpreted rules to his favour - he stayed in Tide of Shadows all time, saying that Tide of Shadows gives benefit of cover, and some cover adds -1 to hit now, to like he said he had all the time +1 to save in shooting, fighting and -1 to hit. Also he went 50 points overboard, he got yellow card and had to downgrade one terminator squad to strike squad.

That's super disappointing!

  • 2 weeks later...

Ben took 10th place (out of 74) in the Flying Monkey Con GT today, so not a bad showing, at all. He had the highest placement out of the several Grey Knights players.

I’ve asked him about how he adjusted his list from the event 2 weeks ago, but one of you will probably find the list somewhere online first.

From what I have gathered:

HQ
- GMNDK (WLT - First to the Fray, Greathammer, Gatling Psilencer, Heavy Psycannon, Augurium Scrolls, Teleporter, GoI)
- GMNDK (Greathammer, Gatling Psilencer, Heavy Psycannon, Teleporter, Sanctuary)
- Draigo (Edict Imperator, Inner Flame)

TROOPS
- Terminator Squad x5 (Psilencer, GoI)
- Terminator Squad x5 (Sanctuary)
- Terminator Squad x5 (GoI)
- Terminator Squad x5 (Hammerhand)

ELITES
- Venerable Dread (Lascannon/ML Astral Aim)
- Servitors x4

TRANSPORTS
- Lascannon Razorback
- Lascannon Razorback
- Lascannon Razorback

----------------------------------------------

EDIT: As Silver-Fox pointed out below he faced another GK player with the more traditional 8Ed list:

HQ
- GMNDK (WLT - Lore Master, Greatsword, Heavy Incinerator, Heavy Psycannon, Teleporter, Santic Shard)
- Voldus (Edict Imperator, Warp Shaping, Empyrean Domination)
- Draigo  (Armoured Resilience, Inner flame)

TROOPS
- Strike Squad x10
- Strike Squad x5
- Terminator Squad x5

ELITES
- Paladins x10 (4 Psycannons)
- Venerable Dread (Lascannon / CCW)

^ So theory-hammer of Strikes + Paladin Bomb vs Terminators + GK vehicles put to action on a tournament level!

Yes he had the twin Las + Missle setup on his Dreadnought.

If you want to watch the first game of him here is the Link of the Gk vs GK grudge match

https://m.twitch.tv/videos/711048944

I think the way to go is a combination of both lists. One GM-NDK is pretty strong and can be protected but i feel like the sanctuary is better on a big paladin/terminator unit. Both took the Ven Dread but I like the whole shooty loadout more than the CC + twin Las combo.

I don't like the razorback route, because they dont profit from our tides and cost 120 pts. You can get a regular dread with twin las + Missle for 140 pts. He can cast a power and profits from our tides, what makes him so much more stable in the shadow tide. So I would rather take 2 cybots and 1 razorback(to hide the servitors) in his list than tripple razorbacks.

One 10 Stormbolter squad for a psybolt ammunition combo should be in our list. Thats so much firepower for decent investment. The cheapest way would be 10 Strikes but they will cost 1 CP more to make them rapidfire on 24".

I liked the second list more, but I am a bit confused. Why GMNDK with loremaster and sanctic shard? I'd prefere FttF+Augurium scrolls in this case. Also, no backsitter libby combo, which I like very much. First list looks a bit spammy to me, but I am glad to see terminators, servitors and razorbacks.

I'm with Corvus on this one. I also like my backseat librarian, so giving a +2 to cast to the GMNDK is pointless. However, with my experience of GMNDK in mind, and how squishy they can be, perhaps he gave it to the GMNDK because he didn't have any other viable choices in that list, or as an extra incentive to get the sanctuary off? Because any good opponent would deny a +1 to their invuln.
