Looking for some feedback to make sure I built this list correctly rules and equipment wise. More focused on making a list with the models I currently have than collecting more right now (gotta paint half of this before I go to 2000pts)

Any glaring issues in wargear or construction?

Greetings,

from what I see it seems perfectly legal and sound especially for a starting army. It's kinda refreshing to see some interesting choices that are rarely used in meta. However, I'd happily give a little bit of advice  on how to make this list in my opinon just a little bit more dangerous without large changes.

General trend I see is that you are ill equiped to deal with real heavy infantry (Terminators etc) as you have few AP2 weapons other than lascannons. It's nothing out of ordinary for small lists but it might get you in trouble. Speakin about lack od AP2...

...I don't think I have ever seen a praetor with a power sword and it's for a reason. It really seems like a waste. You don't even have to swap his arm, just pay extra 10 points for a Paragon Blade. (Edit, I've checked it's actually extra 20 points, quite a lot, but still definitely worth imo over a base sword, alternatively you could take Phoenix spear for only 10pts) It's super effective as an Emperor's Children Praetor swings it at I7 in correct situation and it can cut easily oh so prevalent 2+ save.  Compared to your puny sword it gets +1 S and huge Ap2  AND a chance for Instant Death and loses nothing (you don't get extra attack with a sword anyway due to lack of second weapon like a pistol). It's a must.

My second advice is to tweak wargear on Palatine Blades. Everyone getting a sword but sarge getting inferior Charnabal sabre? It might make more sense for other legions where getting higher  Initiative is huge but... your sarge is already I5 or 6 in a challenge. He really doesn't need to go higher unless you are against other ECs. If he is fighting enemy praetors or centurions with I5 then charnabal sabres is rather useless anyway as it's very unlikely to kill anything other than an enemy sergeant. It has rending so it's not completely useless though. Here's an idea: if you want to have a powerful sergeant pay for his Phoenix Lance. It's expensive but this guy can really use it, and you don't have to pray for rending on 6s. I'd also advise downgrading some swords in the squad just to make it cheaper. Besides if you fight against units with 2+ save that Charnarbal are better than swords. Therefore you could take some swords, take some sabres and depending on who do you want to attack decide which ones are more expendable, so who will be the first casualty.

Aptohecary is rather important fellow therefore I advise an Artificer Armour.

I also have one concern that sadly cannot be easily amended. Your praetor with cataphracti armour makes it impossible to sweep advance enemies after winning a combat, and it's something ECs are usually good at. But alas, unless you have different pattern of Terminator armour, we can't do anything about it.

A few things. You don't want a praetor in Cataphracti as he can't sweep, so weakens any combat wins.

I wouldn't suggest you need the Spartan if you're presumably putting the Palatine blades in it. You could use a dreadclaw to get there faster, for less points but only if you reduce the squad to 8 to give space to the praetor and the apothecary.

Alternatively a land raider would work.

Then you could use the spare points to pick up some lazer rapiers or other cheap anti tanks.

Thanks for the replies guys, very helpful. The captain was in cat term armour because at 2k points I was going to have the emps children special terminators in the Spartan with him instead of the Palatine. Shrink that squad a tad maybe and give them jump packs instead. I'll try to work more ap2 weapons in there. Also I'll be facing very limited enemies with a bit of an agreement to not finess our lists to just counter the other rather than collect the models we like.

Ditch the Praetor.

Add a Legion Champion w. Paragon Blade as your comp HQ.

Then bring a Herald for MotL and that sweet 'Banner of the Eye', and have them both join your Palatine Blades. Ups their value quite a bit since the Herald is also scoring in addition to his other buffs.

Well about those Consuls... I'd represent an alternative point that champion is too expensive for a weaker character and praetor might just be a better bang for the buck; for what, 20 pts, upgrade from Champion to Praetor nets you +1 A +1W, better gear and Master of the Legion - though Champion is compulsory for the very neat Maru Skara RoW. And Herald, while comendable for EC, is currently a waste in such a small list. Better to take a chaplain that offers better buffs to the single unit that only really matters. If you want to have a Rite or War then Delegatus is an excellent choice for a smaller list.

But really, for a starter list it's quite alright. In time you'll see what should be done differently but for now I think it would be a shame to drop all units you fancy just cause we have different ideas for your army.
