Daemon Engines in 9th?

Given all the improvements to vehicles, plus all the terrain the lord discordant can hide behind, do we think the 6 daemon engine list (3x defiler, 3x forgefiend) list can work in 9th?

I feel daemon engines are one of the better builds csm can muster atm. Not my nature to spam quite so hard but I am busting out double defilers again and on the fence about double contemptors.. mostly because I still wanna play my infantry models.

180 points for the blood slaughterer, still seems quite overpriced this edition based on the current datasheet. Any thoughts on it? The auto 6” advance is nice, but the loss of the soul forged pack advance and charge strat seems to make the unit faaaar less useful now. No shooting other than the harpoon, which trades 1 attack for 50% chance of adding 2” to charge range of vehicles/monsters (bs4+). I think it’s at least 30 points too expensive, personally. Oh well, meaningless thought; it costs what it costs.

There’s an argument to be made regarding specialist detachments still being fine for casual gaming, but I’m operating under the assumption that they’ll follow tournament rule restrictions/guidance.

I'm gonna be going with dreadnaughts (hell brutes and contemptor) and venomcrawlers.  I'd go defiler like everyone is saying but I just hate the model.  A potential list I've been looking at has dico lord, 2 venoms, 1 hellbrute with twin las and fist with heavy flamer, and 1 contemptor w/ dual butcher cannons

Yea our dreads and engines are still in a good spot. And now I feel those types of lists just seem even better than before compared to any of the more infantry focused lists I've built. It's a combo of the state of csm infantry and the pts increases reducing list bulk, forcing me into more threat dense efficient platforms. At least that's my impression so far.

Blood slaughterers may be over costed considering their durability. But they always have been really and they only went up 15 pts. Thier main draw is they hit like a truck and occupy fast attack which is very useful now.. so they work best in a push list. I've been on the receiving end of multiple slaughterers with a KLoS and discos. I feel Mauler fiends would probably be better for that purpose but then the slaughters worked well enough haha. Or even heldrakes which are fantastic at drawing heat.
