Followers of the Silent King hear this! It is our time to rule again, to rise beyond our former glory to claim dominance over the galaxy!

Welcome to the Royal Awakening! The next three months, being today August 8th to November 8th, will see this thread host the main painting event. Over the course of this time everyone involved will have 5 vows where they can pledge any amount of models at a time. A vow must be completely finished before a new one is made. When making a Vow state which number Vow you are making, what the contents are, what the current point value is (though I assume I'll be revisiting these when the Codex comes out), and include a picture of the model(s) no more than primed their initial colour. For example,

For my first Vow I, [NTaW], pledge to paint one Cryptek armed with a staff of light for a total of 85 points.

Picture:

49369614528_5c3d5bd25f.jpg

Feel free to add as much flourish as you'd like to the statement, but this is the minimum. When posting your completed Vow make a clear "I'm done!" statement just so it's obvious to me to adjust the master list of Vows. I have been pretty laid-back about adherence to this given I didn't detail it at first and plan on continuing in that manner because PAINT MODELS! but for simplicity in record-keeping would appreciate if we could use this method moving forward.

I've included all Vows from the build time at the bottom of this thread (some of you will be starting here from your 2nd Vow as a result, myself included).

Now for the fun stuff!

The badges being awarded will be for the following categories:

  • Royal Warden -- participation and completion of a vow.
  • Lord -- completion of 1,000+ points.
  • Overlord -- completion of 1,500+ points.
  • Phaeron -- completion of 2,000+ points.

Here's a sneak peek at what you'll be able to proudly display in your signature upon completion in the event:

gallery_30308_9518_1721.png

Use this thread for making your Vows and sharing WIP pictures if you like, bonus marks if you get in-character for your interactions. I'll be keeping track of overall points since I'm sure I'm not alone in wondering how much we can collectively paint in three months and maybe also comparing it to last year's ETL total

Please also feel free to post up any questions you have regarding the event. This is my first time doing something like this and I'm bound to miss a crossed "t" or dotted "i" somewhere.

I kept my Necron half of Indomitus to see how I would like Necrons. No use committing to something and then finding out I do not like painting silver. :p

And I think this will be a nice change for when I need to take a break from my Chaos army.

I also got another 3 Scarab bases from an acquaintance who did not want them, for a total of now 9 Scarab bases.

So here goes:

I,  Valkia the Bloody, pledge to paint the Necron half of the Indomitus set plus 3 additional Scarab bases in the next three months.

That is, if I am right, 1040 points at current cost?

I will be painting them as Cybermen since I am a huge Whovian.

Behold, an ancient evil stirs on the Tomb World of Telos!

By accident, an archaeological team has awakened the unfeeling, undying legions, united in their purpose to conquer, without emotion and without remorse.

We are coming for you.

Resistance is useless.

To answer your question, NTaW, it's not a wash--the blue is Talassar Blue over leadbelcher spray (in a couple of cases leadbelcher brushed on, because I tried different colors). The purple is Magos Purple over leadbelcher, and the main reason that I didn't use it on more of the model is Magos Purple doesn't like leadbelcher very much.

I, Rtb01, pledge to paint the Necron half of the Indomitus set plus 6 additional Scarab bases.

I believe this to be 1085 points.

... His will must be done ...

... He commands it ...

... defilers detected ... Canoptek protocols enacted ...

... the legion will rise again, in His name it will be done ...

Welcome Valkia the Bloody to the Royal Awakening! Excellent 1st Vow. I look forward to seeing your Cyberme--Dynasty grow. Just hope you don't come up against anyone running around calling themselves the Doctor during your galactic conquests!

DPL, thanks for responding I didn't much think of that when I closed the previous thread  They look great and I'm really liking how Contrast looks over metallic undercoats. Can't wait to see more done up in this new scheme! :tu:

Dread if you would like I can put you in as a 1st Vow of "Indomitus" that started during the build time if you like. Or you can Vow future stuff, or just post up your sweet looking Necrons adjacent to those Vowing here...really it's all good. Is that a metallic blue you have going or is the lighting of your picture playing tricks on my eyes?

01RTB01 you're the first one to make a 2nd Vow! Good luck getting everything completed, though with how fast those first 20 Warriors came together I'm sure you'll be fine. :tu:

++targeting data processing...

targeting data amalgamated.

insufficient firepower for current attack protocols.

enemy forces withstanding assault.

doom scythe cohort launched.++

I NTaW hereby make my 2nd Vow of two Doom Scythes, totaling 340 points.

Right. The Cryptek took me 8ish days so these two will be done in about the rest of the event likely. :teehee:

I, Spinsanity, pledge to paint the Necron half of the Indomitus set in the next three months, for a total of 990pts.

In the name of the Maynarkh Dynasty and Phaerakh Xun'bakyr, her thirst for blood shall be quenched!

+Edit: I'll obviously add a few Flayed Ones units as a second pledge eventually, I'm just holding out hope that a new plastic set comes out rather than I having to convert some of my own...

I'll repeat this post from the other thread for the sake of clarity, updating that this bunch of models forms my second vow!

  • Skorpekh Lord (130)
  • 3 Skorpekh Destroyers with Plasmacyte (135)
  • 10 Warriors with Gauss Flayers (120)
  • 3 Canoptek Scarab Swarms (45)
  • Canoptek Reanimator (110)

For a total of 540 Points

For my first Vow I, Toyship, pledge to paint one unit of 10 Warriors for a total of 120pts. May these risen foot-soldiers bring glory to the Necrontyr and the Silent King!

++++

Literally got these warriors in today and was so excited I got them near to finished. Just need to do the Gauss effects and the bases!

Can't wait to finish these guys up! 20 more and an Overlord will be up next.

Okay, so here we go..

For my second Vow I, anticontrarian, pledge to paint the following, for a total of 1150points:

Royal Awakening, Second Vow

  • 2 Royal Wardens
  • 20 Necron Warriors with Gauss Flayers
  • 40 Necron Warriors with Gauss Reapers
  • 18 Canoptek Scarab Swarms

As a personal challenge, I'm going to try and get these guys done in the next two weekends - if I can get a routine of painting at this rate, I should be able to finish my Indomitus guys in Vow 3, and then have two vows (and time!) remaining to get myself some new toys.

Best of luck, everyone!

Yes!! Glorious Vows!!! The Silent King will be pleased with our work.

Dread I looked up the paint and dang those must look great in person! I can see why it would be a hard colour to capture in picture though. Also I added your Indomitus set as your first Vow :tu: It's kinda easy for me here since I really doubt any/many people had any access to the models before the event started.

Spinsanity welcome! I'm rooting for Flayed Ones as well, my old metal ones are cool and all but could be so very much cooler. I'm curious to see how you'll employ the Dynasty's colours.

Halandaar thank you for reposting your second Vow, sorry that it fell through the cracks while I transferred the thread. Surely while I was being awestruck by how fast you completed your first Vow/challenge  :whistling: (that was really great though)

Toyship such vigour! I'm really liking the brassy look you're getting, are you painting the Szarekhan Dynasty?

RazorDaemon your Royal Warden is indeed 80 points and a welcome addition to the cause. What Dynasty will you be painting, or will it be a concoction of your own?

Anticontrarian back for round 2! Jeeze though two weekends?! I'll be hitting refresh on the browser with some popcorn waiting to see if you can do it. I also like how well you're strategizing your Vows, three months goes by quicker than one might think sometimes. It sure seems like you have your eye set on the Phaeron title at the end of the event.

The main list will be [momentarily] updated and I'll be posting overall updates every weekend moving forward. Great work everyone, now keep painting!

Thanks NTaW! Yep! They are Szarekhan through and through! As soon as I saw the new colors and models I knew I had to collect them. I’m going with a slightly darker scheme to offset the bright gauss effects I have planned and to get that more grimdark look. Really digging what everyone is doing so far. So stoked to be a part of this!

I’m willing to model my own if need be, but I’d much rather avoid having to... There are these amazing Sicarian-Warrior hybrids I’ve seen before that look amazing but would end up being quite costly...

As for the color scheme, I’m still unsure as to how I’ll go, truth be told; the decision to go with Maynarkh was 100% based on the inspiring fluff from Fall of Orpheus and had nothing to do with the actual appearance of the dynasty... I’ve been thinking a heavily washed Leadbelcher base, with maybe brass or gold as the accent/highlight color (beyond the dynaty’s emblematic orange).

Think a rusty metallic/leadbelcher might make for a better base than an oily/darker metallic? I fear the rust might get lost in the orange glow of the weapons, eyes and other energy sources...

I've got my runelord brass through and primed some sprue bits and done some trials. Really don't like the GW method for szarekh dynasty, much prefer what I've done myself...

Managed a skorpekh destroyer today, will get pics soon. I'll aim to prime my next batch of warriors today and get them finished by the weekend. The destroyer was a nice distraction and gave chance to play with blade painting

Got lucky with calm winds this evening, managed to get all my based guys undercoated, so a little over halfway through stage one! Been playing around with some colour layouts on the gauss guns-ironically, after waiting almost a decade for the release of Warriors without "those stupid green tubes", I'm actually painting the whole of that bit bright green anyway.

Gauss Flayer test

I do like your Szarekhs 01RTB01, it's still very obvious who they are, but it's subtly different from the "GW Standard" scheme.

Cheers dude, means a lot :D

I also adore the green tubes. Your scheme looking cool. Alas no spray my end due to random hail storm!
