my quandary is this : one of my regular opponents use the death guard,

thematically i would love to slay mortarion with the emperors champion

i see your wisdom and council on this mater my currant idea is a Chaplin's litany and remove a few wounds before the duel

if i can charging from outside is death aura ability

any help would be greatly appreciated

You cant kill him with the emperors champion if he is not already woundend.

About a year I had a fungame against a DG list with Mortarion and I killed him after 4 Shots of Razorback Lascannons and 2 shots Melter from a crusadersquad (combimelter + melter) before I charged with the Emperors champion.

thanks for the tip

im looking at things like the repost strat and in the assult doc part of game i have a dubious rep for pulling off imposable stunts after my Chaplin and his crusade squad (4 men) charged dawn some nids and murdered there tyrant with the sword brothers power sword

Its far from impossible but it requires very good luck with 4+ invulnerable saves after transhuman physiology to survive to pay the 3cp to fight again or just dying and paying 2cp to fight again then. To hurt Mortarion reliably you'd also have to ally in a nasty librarian with might of heroes and null zone but you can get away with just hoping he fails saves.

With death to the traitors for 1cp the EC has an average of 8 attacks each time he fights which gives a potential 48 damage. If he tries to use sweep attacks you can use vicious ripost to get a few more mortal wounds on him before he kills you and you fight again. So 5 cp in hand should be enough to give you a shot.

Biggest thing I've taken out with an Emperor's champion fighting twice is a character Knight which is about the same number of wounds as mortarion after DR but it didn't have a 4+ invulnerable save.

Yeah Morty also has a 5 up FnP, which a Knight doesn't have.  Morty also usually, from every time I've ever played against him, has the Pestilent Miasma (or something like that, I can't remember exactly what the name is) which confers -1 to hit for everything.  The only turn he doesn't have it is the first turn assuming you go first, and usually you ain't gonna get the EC in combat with him turn 1.

5+ feel no pain on 18 wounds is statistically equivilant to the 24 wounds on a knight. I've taken Mortarion to 4 tournaments and its the 4+ invulnerable saves that determin whether or not he lives. Miasma of Pestilence can be denied or simply fail and the EC can reroll all hit rolls so doesn't care that much.

vicious ripost îsnt really good for the emperors champion against such a beast.  A Knight is easier to kill then Mortarion. I forget to mention that my emperors champion was next to Helbrecht to get Str.8 against Morti.

The -1 to hit on the EC weakens VP but with Mortarion's 18 attacks and Death to the False Emperor its a good way to throw down a few extra mortal wounds, especially since you want the EC to die so he can get a second round of hits in.

There are plenty of Knight builds that are way harder to kill than Mortarion. Mortarion is only T7 so with the Champion rerolls to wound you don't need strength 8.

Some quick mathhammer says that the Emperor's Champion will average about 3 damage to Mortarion, although that goes up if you can stack buffs on him and/or catch Mortarion without the -1 to hit. Fighting twice or on death will of course double that.

So if you can get him in when Mortarion is wounded, he has a fair shot. It's going to be very swingy though: with a 4++, a FNP, and random damage, there are lots of opportunities for very strange results.

big if as well a relic blades are going to +3 str the black sword should too giveing the ec str 7 reroll wnds vs char 8 attacks

add reroll hits and theres a litany that adds +! to hit off setting the -1 morty gives

i

i dont want to take a ally libby with null zone as thats cheating i feel

and reposte might throw a few wounds  his way

snipe a few wounds before the charge (rd 3 for the assult doc and knights of dorn)

thats how far i am with figureing it out so far
