Summoning Karanak

His special rule will only work against one character no matter how many times you summon him though right?

"Prey of the Blood God: When both armies have been set up, choose one enemy CHARACTER on the battlefield. You can add 1 to hit and wound rolls for Karanak’s attacks when they target this character."

That's at army set up. Not when he is summoned. But maybe I'm wrong, the whole summoning him part confuses me haha.

That's a good point, he doesn't exist as part of your list during the army set up stage so he wouldn't get the rule. Plus that's more points to reserve to summon him twice, given the time required to get him on the table to do his thing, die, and come back and do something worthwhile when he does it doesn't feel like the best use of points?

The only time I can see summoning him being worth anything is if you set aside 100ish points for an extra HQ, and use it as a tool box. Too many psychers? Drop him on the table as your 4th HQ turn 1. Fighting Nurgle? Summon an extra Skull Master to insure your Bloodletters are S6 on the charge. It'd be hard to justify summoning with much more, but I have the sneaking suspicion this might be one of the mechanics that gets updated for 9th.

I seem to remember some FAQ or something that said that you determined any "beginning of battle" abilities when a summoned model hits the table - but where ever it was seems to be superceded by the edition change.  So I guess for now the answer is "work it out with your opponent."

I'm going to transfer this question in the rules forum - someone there might have a better memory (or eye) than I do.
