Help with 9th ed. list

Hey all, 

 

I've played 2 games now in 9th ed, and lost both.     Some definitely due to my own learning of the right secondaries to take and focus in play style.    But thought I would post my list here for additional thoughts and feedback from the more experienced AdMech players.

 

Now, my opponent in the first game played all knights, and in the second game all Astra Militarum tanks.     So I definitely felt short of anti-tank options.

 

My 2000 point list in the second game (which I did better with) was as follows: 

 

 

Cawl

Tech Priest Manipulus

Daedalosus  

 

3X5 rangers with 2 arquebus

1X5 rangers with 2 plasma

6 Destroyers with Grav and flamers

 

2 Ironstriders with Las cannons

1 Sterylizors 

 

1 datasmith (I know he's not great, but I had enough points left to get him after everything else in the list, and gave me another repair unit)

 

4 Daka Robots

1 Dunecrawler

 

1 Fusilave

 

 

In terms of secondaries, i took Bring them down (due to all the tanks), Engage in all fronts, and scramblers.

my thoughts are a bit simple here go's

 

both games were heavy knights and armour to counter this i feel you need a bit more antitank scopiuos with the canon or onagar with neutron laser would help

 

too many bots maybe try 2 or 3

 

also more rangers/vanguards small team droping in with plasma chargeing a russ would help with toughness etc

 

do you have the option for the bomber siesmic bomb is fun if not do you need the flyer as points cost is high

 

breechers have better armour value and can assult stuff too

 

also maybe bring a knight errant very good and messing up tanks

 

i play very different to most with massed skitari and support rather than massed support and skitari 

 

just a few thoughts

I was contemplating getting an other crawler. 

 

this List is (largely) just what i have available.   So it does somewhat do to what to buy next for my list.

 

One thing i have been conteplating is getting some transports for the troops.   My thinking being that the transport gets to the objective.   Likely obliterated in my opponent's turn.   But hopefully that leaves the boys inside in the right position to be holding the objective on my turn.

 

Anyone have experience with that?  Holding objectives does seem to be an area I've been struggling with.  But that could somewhat come down to how i've been playing as opposed to my list.

You have in my opinion too many arquebus. They are expensive and rarely make their points back in my experience. One squad, maybe two, might work.

 

Dakka bots can put out serious hurt, enough to chew though tanks. Use the canticle for plus 1 str, Cawl’s rerolls, double shooting and wrath of mars to rip stuff. Pick the Engine War Warlord trait divinations of the magos and score an extra hit on a roll of 6 when firing ranged weapons while within 6” of the warlord.

Add a crawler or a dune rider or two and you should be fine.
