Question regarding units that fight twice

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding units that fight twice in the fight phase (e.g. Khorne Berzerkers).  If a unit of Berzerkers charges an enemy unit and proceeds to kill the entire unit in the fight phase with their first round of attacks, can they then consolidate into and fight another unit with their second round of attacks if they did not declare the second unit as a target of their charge?  If so, do they still get their charge bonuses (e.g. shock assault) against the unit they consolidated into?

Hopefully my description of this scenario makes sense?  A friend and I had this argument during a recent game and weren't sure how to resolve it.  If anyone has any guidance I'd appreciate it, as I haven't been able to find a clear answer so far.

Thanks!

I had something similar come up in a game and talking it through and reading the rules with a friend, we came to the agreement that the rules seem to imply that they would not get the fight the second unit because it was not charged, and that their fight twice rule is a result of an rule in their datasheet that allows them to do so.

However, reading the rules we agreed that if a force consolidated into a unit it did not charge, and then used a Stratagem (Fury of Khorne I think?) to fight again at the end of the round, then it would be able to fight normally but not receive shock assault. The unit it consolidated into would then also be able to strike back.

I'm not sure if that's a correct interpretation, but that was our conclusion. I'm also interested to hear what others think!

EDIT: This was from the Rules Appendix on pp 362 of the main rulebook, at least the Indomitus copy, under the 'Fight Again' section.

Fury of Khorne just lets the unit fight again, it doesn't change who it can fight.  So all the berzerkers attacks, when they fight originally, when they fight again, and when they fight again again, all can only be against the units they declared charges against or enemy characters that have done a heroic intervention.

So, the rules are exactly the same as last edition, except you can't declare charges against additional units hoping to consolidate into them to fight again, as in 9th if you can't get into engagement range of all declared targets with your charge, you can't charge at all.  Oh, and the being able to attack models that have heroicly intervened but weren't declared as targets is also new.
