In Titandeath Warlord Titans are able to engage escorts and cruisers iirc. It's always been something that doesn't quite sit well with me, but I think it's been mentioned r described in the lore a few times (also, ships seem to regularly use orbital bombardment without cracking planets, and there have been been descriptions of Titan warfare razing entire cities and turning plains of sand to glass).

Warlord Titans are able to engage escorts/cruisers in the same way that lascannon-armed squads are able to engage Titans. They might be able to do a little damage, but they're not exactly on a level playing field. That Volcano Cannon could do damage to the Escort if its shields are down, but it's going to be insignificant when compared to an actual macrocannon or ship-class las/plasma weaponry.

To clarify, this is twelve Warlord titans with engaging with Volcano and Laser Blaster weaponry, able to destroy one void vessel of undescribed class and crippling an escort. Reavers around them are being one-shot by lance weaponry if they get hit.

No, that seems false. No titan is going to carry weapons on a grade that can crack a planet.

Obviously not the largest weapons, but the 'planet cracking'/ exterminatus weapons like cyclonic torpedoes or the Life Eater Virus aren't the ones used in day to day void warfare, those are more like macrocannons and lances, which again are way bigger than you'd get on a titan.

I'd say a Lasgun is to a volcano cannon as a volcano cannon is to a lance, both in terms of size and power (because in the Imperium size = power).

A titan might be wielding the same kind of weapon seen on a defence turret on an imperial navy ship, like some anti torpedo mega gatling cannon or something.

The reference from the book is quite old now, and titan legions and battlefleet gothic had been discontinued by that point I think, there was no real active discussion on scale at that time in the hobby.

Here's a clip from Dawn of War with a dismembered Emperor Titan weapon with some guardsmen for scale.

I think there has been mention of vulcan megabolters being anti-fighter/bomber defense turrets on void vessels.

Keep in mind that, generally speaking, Imperial warships have two types of weapons; weapon batteries and lances (ignore torpedoes and nova cannons for now).

Lances are basically upscaled lascannons, much like Volcano cannons, but much bigger. A lascannon turret on a warship is about the size of a hab-block or subsidiary spire of a hive city. So no way a volcano cannon can match a Lance.

But weapon batteries are basically rows upon rows of smaller guns. Can be shell-firing cannons, lasers, plasma cannons, rocket pods, etc. 'Smaller' is relative, of course. Its shell-firing cannons are typically referred to as macro-cannons. Still, the power of these weapon batteries comes not from their size, but from their volume of fire; filling the void with ordnance or other explosives to hammer enemy shields and hull to cause death by a thousand cuts  (while lances typically puncture the armor to strike deep into vital ship systems and cause a knockout blow via a critical hit).

So in that regard it isn't to strange to say a titan may have 'warship-strength' weaponry. But a single such cannon, big as it may be, means little in void combat where a warship who has row upon row of these and is designed to slug it out with another ship with a comparable volume of fire.

I've read the Fire Warrior novel - and it was damn bad and inaccurate, feeling like a hastily written video game transcript. Don't take statements like this at face value, otherwise we get statements like "a single fire warrior can kill dozens of astartes". Not having any kind of reference what kind of warship (human or tau, capital or escort) is meant makes the whole quote moot.

I realize that some ships' weapons are as big as a titan, but there are numerous weapons on the ships, for example we know that the DeathStrike macrocannon is naval and is mounted on both Warlord Titans and Imperators.

What I was interested in knowing is if this quote is really present in the novel firewarrior, and at what point in the novel it is, because the user states it is on page 320, but I have the pdf and I don't know at what point in the story it is. find in pdf
