Veteran Intercessors = Wolf Guard

Anyone else notice that Veteran Intercessors get the Wolf Guard key word? Has this been discussed already? I’m curious if anyone thinks this makes them more viable. Presumably they’ll have access to Vicious Executioners stratagem, if we get it back. Anyone see play there? To me, this makes them slightly more attractive as a Ragnar/Impulsor escort, although I doubt they’ll match Bladeguard.

Yeah, I actually think losing ObSec is the biggest issue, especially in this edition. Still, could be some play depending on what strategems they have access to given that the pack leader has base 4 attacks and can be given a thunder hammer or power fist. With Wulfen Stone and an aura (if either one still exists) you can potentially have a sergeant with 7 S8 attacks on the charge (which can be subsequently buffed with a stratagem or three). Our Elites slot has had such fierce competition going on in these last two editions, that even new units like these struggle to rise to the top. If Arjac's +1 attack aura still existed, they'd be an auto-take for me, but alas.

I can definitely see these guys being nuts. Pop the strat for mortal wounds on sixes, and the one to make them count as in all doctrines (if not assault already). You now have on the charge:

51 attacks, six of which can be thunder hammer

Hitting on twos

Sixes grant additional hit

Sixes do a mortal wound in addition to normal damage

Base damage is on rend two

Bonus for exhortation of rage to add +1 to wound.

AND THEY CAN FIGHT AGAIN IF ITS STILL ALIVE!

Your looking at around 8-9 mortal wounds before you even get to 33 wounds at AP 2, and that's without re-rolls. All brought to you for 22 points a model. That is undoubtably worth an elites slot.

This unit can be ObSec with New relic banner. Although so can Bladeguard. However the vet int WG can take better shooting like assault BR and still take a hammer and chainswords. One thing to also note if playing 2k game. You can have 3 warlord traits. So potential after codex drops for multiple buffing traits.

Chainsword replaces the rifle, so no rifle and chainsword blending in a unit.

For jump packs of course!

Veteran Intercessors get jump packs in the new Codex!? That's awesome!

Hopefully we keep those in the Supplement then... man that would be another kick in the teeth to loose something like that just to be unique when they aren't even giving us a new unit (most likely).

I mean it doesn't even seem like there are power axes available beyond the classic Astartes and the Primaris WG Battle Leader...

Lol, I built 2 5 man squads of Intercessors right before 9th ed was announced. I was going to make them Veterans with CP, so I modeled them with ABRs and Chainswords to represent the extra attack, and to look like Grey Hunters.

Hopefully my opponents will let me count the squads as either Assault or Regular. Bad timing, I suppose, but I like how Wolfy they turned out.

Back to other things until the SW Supplement, not really happy the way GW has taken the Wolves with the Errata, hopefully the Supplement is different.

One of our favourite relics, the Wulfen Stone is probably gone or nerfd/changed to rerolling charges if Wulfen themselves no longer give out extra attacks

Am still excited for the new warlord traits and to see what happens to our Psychic Powers. Not expecting much new or improved relics, just leave Armour of Russ is all I ask

I would probably be OK with that. Put it on a Chaplain/Priest with Canticle of Hate and Master Orator for a guaranteed bubble of 7" rerollable charges. That has to be some serious TDA-Bomb potential right there.

Maybe maybe it might also/instead be always counts as being in assault doctrine, as thats something Wulfen have

Might move this to errata thread but AOR might well go as thats the Judiciar's thing now
