So I have been playing space wolves since 3rd edition and when the new Primaris models came out I fell in love with them and started making plans for a Space wolf successor chapter.

So now 9th edition rolls around with the crusade system and my buddy and I see a great opportunity to start a Campaign his Crons vs my Wolves.  We wait for the new codex's to come out and then both make our 50pl order of battle.  We have played 2 games, 31pl and 40pl I tabled him in both games......  not a lot of fun for him.

Here are my lists:

31pl

HQ- Gravis Captain with MC heavy Bolt Rifle & MC Power sword

Troops - 2 5 man intercessor squads with bolt rifles and 1 Grenade launcher

1 power fist 1 power sword

Elite - Redemptor Dread w/ onslaught cannon and Heavy Onslaught cannon, 2x SB and rocket pod

Elite-  Aggressor Squad w/ boltstorms and frag launchers

40 pl

HQ- Gravis Captain with MC heavy Bolt Rifle & MC Power sword

Troops - 1 5 man intercessor squads with bolt rifles and 1 Grenade launcher

              1 power fist

Elite - Redemptor Dread w/ onslaught cannon and Heavy Onslaught cannon, 2x SB and rocket pod

Elite-  3 man Aggressor Squad w/ boltstorms and frag launchers

Heavy- 5 man Hellblaster Squad w/ heavy plasma

Heavy- 3 man Eradicator squad w/ melta rifles

My question is, I don't consider myself a WAAC player, I feel more like a casual player........ our these list OP or broken?  He thinks I'm not even a real Space Wolf player cause I only use Primaris units but I'm starting a Primaris only Successor Chapter so don't want to use old marines and because its a young chapter I figure they wouldn't have any Wulfen yet so I don't use them......

Have I turned into "That Guy" that no one wants to play or did he just have bad luck with his crons??????

Thanks in advance fellow Wolflords:)

With the exception of Eradicators being seriously undercosted i see nothing OP in your list. Its an odd space wolves list but I say you do you. Its possible you were lucky or he had bad luck, or maybe he doesn't quite get 9th ex yet. I'd encourage him to keep playing you to see where he is struggling and can improve.

Thank you for the reply, can I ask why it’s an odd spacewolf list?? Considering my successor is an all primaris chapter I can’t really use any of the old marines..... is there something I should add or take away??

It’s not odd at all for a Space Wolves list, IMO, nor is it OP at all.

At low points games, vehicles can be a tough nut to crack, but a Contemptor is not OP at all. In my Crusade group, one guy has a Punisher Tank Commander and it’s brutal.

To be fair, I would argue that those are slightly underpowered because most of the units do not benefit particularly from SW traits apart from the Aggressors perhaps.

Your lists look fair to me. They are pretty tough units but you have a fairly low model count and you maximum movement speed is 6". His mobile units could run rings around you while heavier firepower units like Lokhust Desrtoyers will chew through even tough Primaris infantry pretty quickly.

Without seeing his list and a battle report it is hard to tell. It may just be that he does not have the right tools in his army to deal with those units. It could also be that he needs to focus more on Objectives. I don't think your lists are particularly OP and look fine for a Primaris Successor chapter. Maybe help him refine his army lists and tactics.
Sanguinius stood up, stretching his wings to their full extent. He flexed his hands. "I need no blade".
It was as though Sanguinius gleamed with pale light, his face white, eyes becoming blood-red, surrounded by the golden crown of flowing hair. Guilliman had witnessed glimpses of of his brother's wrath before, but had never seen the true Blood Angel unleashed. Sanguinius surged forward on alabaster wings, half a meter from the floor, whiteness streaming from him like flames.

Like Karhedron said, there isn't much benefitting from our chapter traits, just the dread and agressors. I didn't mean that statement as a negative thing, simply a comment that you aren't playing units that benefit strongly from space wolves.

If you are winning I dont know that you should add or remove anything unless you want to stop winning, however some units you might consider that get a nice bump from being space wolves and are Primaris would be the Outriders, Chaplain on a Bike, assault intercessors (might want impulsors to deliver but they can slog), Bladeguard, and judiciar. (Not comprehensive but units to look at)

Your list isn't OP, I think it's more that necrons aren't very good at low points. They've always had a tough time in smaller games because they've relied on support characters and big blocks of infantry, it's hard to play to those strengths and fit in the specialists you need to make a well rounded list.

Thanks for the help guys, it’s nice to know I haven’t turned into “that guy”. As for making changes yes I don’t want to win any more...... if I keep winning I fear my friend will just not play my marines any longer....... he is convinced marines are op and any list I bring will table him with out and effort.

As for his list it was..... apologies if I screw up names I’m not familiar with necrons:
40pl
Lord with res orb
Crypteck
20 warriors w/assault 2 guns
5 death marks
3 destroyers from Indomitus box
2 heavy destroyers w/ the single shot 3d3 damage gun

This was our last game and I killed all but the crypteck before we called it, with no loses just damage to the dread and a few wounds off my wolflord and agressors

Hmm, I am not a Necron expert but I have played them enough to notice that the units he is running are not the ones I tend to worry about.

Warriors with Reapers are decent but only at short range. He either needs something like a Nightscythe to deploy them or he needs to switch to the longer-ranged, less powerful gun. As it stands, a blob like that will get chipped down as it walks slowly towards the enemy. If it is lucky it will get off one glorious volley and then get charged.

Death Marks are decent Character killers but since you only have one Character and he is fairly tough....

The Indomitus Destroyers are quite nice but as the only melee threat in his army, they do make an obvious target for your shooting.

The Heavy destroyers are decent vehicle killers but I think regular Lokhusts would be better for chewing through Marines.

I know I’m not this great of a General, I’m ok I know my target priority and I have a lot of shooting. I tend to shoot, shoot some more then counter charge when the enemy gets close. He has 20 of the long range guys on his order of battle but he doesn’t use them cause the gun is weak IHO......

I’m converting some primaris wulfen and thunder wolves to use because he says I’m not a real space wolf player because all I bring is primaris marines. Guess we will see if this helps. That is if he will ever play me again🤷‍♂️

It is a shame your opponent is feeling down about his army after just 2 games.

One thing you could try is swapping armies for a game. He gets to experience life at the other end of the bolter and you can try and see if you can make his Necrons work better.

First off he shouldn't say you aren't a real space wolf player for playing all Primaris, that makes pretty much 0 sense fluff wise, especially if you are going as a successor chapter which fluff has tons of justification for being pure Primaris. Secondly I would say you are limiting your choices, some of which are quite good, by going all Primaris. And thirdly he has pushed you to dip into some of the better non Primaris units we have access to which seems counter to his desire for you to tone down your list. You don't have to sacrifice your fluff for his comfort, especially when he doesn't seem to have a strong grasp of the lore.

Side note, wulfen are Primaris scale so would fit in size wise and if you wanted you could use them right out of the box.

Honestly it sounds like he's coming to the table with a mentality that there is no way for him to win because space marines are scary. But I doubt in the week his codex has been out he has practiced his list enough to see all the tricks available to necrons. I would try to convince him to keep trying and discuss the game after. Try and help him understand his loss if he loses, and remind him to play the mission and carefully select his secondaries. It Honestly sounds a bit like he's blaming your army for his shortcomings, which, with the information you have given, may be the case but may not be as I dont know the guy.

My suggestion for toning down your list is to run a battalion. The second character and additional troop choice will be easier for that list to handle. If you have assualt Intercessors they'd be interesting in the matchup because they're shorter ranged which may help him, but if they get into CC he'll know your playing space wolves.

Yes I agree I was thinking of adding assault Intercessors and a rune Priest to make 50pl for our next crusade game
