RIP Zhufor?

Recommended Posts

Am I blind or is there no datasheet listed for Zhufor in the new Imperial Armour Compendium table of contents?

It's too bad if he doesn't have a datasheet anymore. I was really hoping the new IA book would change his reroll 1s to hit aura to work on World Eaters as well as skulltakers, but alas, it looks like its not to be.

Bit of a shame, we lost all our named FW characters. Before today, part of me still hoped that they'd actually provide rules for the Skulltakers. I'm glad my Zhufor was magnetised from the start so I can easily use him as a regular Chaos Lord (like I was anyway).

Oh well, at least Chaos got off relatively lightly with the IA datasheet culls.

Marines and daemons did, traitor guard got the Thanos treatment.

Very good point.

Goonhammer review is up:

https://www.goonhammer.com/9th-edition-imperial-armour-compendium-the-goonhammer-review/

Dreadclaws look great. Cheaper than before, able to drop on T1 (though currently units have to stay embarked on the turn it arrives), improved weapon in combat, and ability to cause mortal wounds by passing over enemies. Lost a wound, but that means no damage table, so overall a win to me.

Does anyone know if the chaos contemptor still gets the extra attack if armed with 2 CCWs? I have a world eaters contemptor with 2 fists that I have yet to assemble, wondering if I should order a ranged weapon instead.

At the moment none of the chaos dreads have the extra attack from 2 melee weapons until FAQ. Right now it's best to assemble them as you wish then shelve them. Helbrutes do the job the exact same if not better atm.

Eh, contemptors are still worth taking imo.  They got the invuln, extra movement, access to more weapons (RIP butcher cannons though).  I'll probably keep one in all my lists.  Oh, and warpsmiths can repair them now, too.

If you compare the current Contemptor to the old - then sure, it's not as good, mainly because of the CP cost. But if you think of it as an up-gunned Helbrute, it is a much easier pill to swallow. If you were to use the Fire Frenzy strat on the Helbrute even once, it would end up with the same CP outlay as the Contemptor.

The Contemptor can also be thought of as a Havoc alternative. Two multimeltas and a missile launcher will do some serious damage to vehicles within 24", or you can swap out one of the multimeltas for a chainfist so it can hold its own in combat if needed.

That said, I'm a much bigger fan of how the Decimator turned out. Yes, it has a damage chart now, but it combos well with the Lord Discordant and Daemonforge strat. Especially now that the Soulburner Petard requires a wound roll; it got a lot cheaper, while its downsides can be mitigated with Daemonforge rerolls.

Even if they are getting rid of him, doesn't matter to me, I have the model and bought another to convert him into a larger zerker like the rest of the new CSM's so he'll just become another one of my champions, with whatever the rules allow me to have.  GW can't take away the lore from me but even then it doesn't matter because I only use champions in large scale games when I use more than one because I ALWAYS take the chosen of Khorne in my battles for my HQ (Khârn for the uninitiated, or for those that made a brain fart).
