For those of you that have a gallery here at the B&C, we need your help (with [your] album(s)).

 

First, please delete any images in your gallery that are not in use here at the B&C. The most common reason for an image to not be used is because any topics in which it was posted have been deleted as obsolete. Other common reasons are avatar/signature images that you longer use. There are any number of reasons that images might no longer be used, however.

 

Second, please take a look at the categories to which your albums have been assigned. When creating an album, the default category is Miscellaneous, and many members don't assign a more appropriate category. We've created categories to support factions/sub-factions, as well as some for certain games, challenges/events, tutorials, terrain/obstacles, etc. If your albums aren't organized in a manner that the current categories support, you can use either the Miscellaneous category or you can suggest additional categories (via a reply in this topic).

 

All of this will help the site in two ways:

• Improves findability of content - Members sometimes browse galleries, so assigning accurate categories helps them to find the albums they want (e.g., someone wanting to look at images of Death Guard models can simply browse through the albums in that category). Something else we can do here is include a link to a page linking to all of the albums in a category in the various resource topics (e.g., the Dark Angels Resources topic might link to the page showing all of the albums in the Dark Angels category).
• Reduces database size in preparation for the server migration - The galleries take up a significant majority of our database size, so removing obsolete images helps us to keep the database clean and lean.

Suggestion: how about categories specific to the 31st millenium legions? EG. XIIth Legion rather than World Eaters.

Having duplicate categories for the same factions, even when separated over time, would create confusion. While most of the Legions that turned to Chaos have changed in significant ways since the Horus Heresy, some of them have not and many of the loyalists have significant room for models to represent both periods. Similarly, it's possible for models in many of the other factions to work in both eras. The structure works best if it is built around a singular framework, with flexibility added through other means. The converse of this is that too much specificity in the overarching framework (the categories) can also remove flexibility. The categories are just one element of the content management structure, with other elements also working to give further specificity. In the case of your suggestion, players can further break World Eaters albums down by using tags such as XIIth Legion and Great Crusade era for World Eaters prior to the Horus Heresy and Khornate warband or The Anointed for World Eaters during the Era Indomitus.

I'm betting that you and I are the only ones that used them or noticed when they disappeared. Both indices have been deleted, so you probably don't need them. The only reason I haven't deleted mine [yet] are that there are some individual posts in which I've shown some of the covers, so I'm going to make sure that I keep the relevant images and delete only those that aren't being used.

There isn't an easy way. The hard way is to find all of your content and then figure out which images are still in use (much easier on a computer where you can have multiple tabs open to compare posts and albums).

I'll be self conscious on what images I post. I'll keep it to completed conversions, mostly painted stuff and try not to post "loot", "just in the post" or "swag" pics of stuff, basically boxed stuff that isn't a collectors/ rare thing.
