Who else is disappointed by the new Outrider kit?

It appears to be the same sprue as the indomitus box set.

So no options, fixed pose, not easy way to swap shoulder pads.

Also: that annoying helmet on the side of the seargent.

Sometimes it feels like he is not even trying.

I like the bikes and the squad. Once. It is not very reusable, and the price they charge for a monopose, push-fit kit is utterly ridiculous. The helmet and pistol on the sergeant look fine, but the way it is makes the squad look incredibly repeatable, very quickly.

Count me in. I'm not going through the hassle of converting them into Ravenwing. The fixed shoulder pads are a dealbreaker for me. Was never that much into bikes in the first place but it's still unfortunate.

Seems my Ravenwing will only operate in Storm Speeders for now. I like those very much.

I wouldn't be surprised if a multi-part release was planned, but had to be dropped in favour of simply re-using the Indomitus contents due to factory disruption during the first lockdown. It's an absolute bummer regardless of whether or not that is the case.

I've converted mine to Ravenwing using some extra black knight wings. I don't really care about the shoulderpad, so decals are fine with me.

But I won't be purchasing any further for the Ravenwing until there's a real kit.

If that were the case I would have expected the options for upgrades and larger squads to be included in the Codex. GW has not produced a MPK of everything, Suppressors from Dark vengeance being a good example of a unit that never grew beyond its original concept.

For what it's worth, Firstborn bikers got an extra wound in the codex so are pretty good now. 3W is a bit of a baseline for durability since it means you can take a hit from overcharged plasma, power fists etc and still fight. Plus Ravenwing can be buffed by the exceptional Ravenwing Apothecary with the Master upgrade.

Plastic kits cost 10s of thousands of dollars to design and cut the moulds.  There's ZERO chance GW decided not to use one before it was even produced at all.

I'm not, I quite like it. It's better than the current firstborn bike, and the rules are great. Fixed shoulderpads are annoying, but not a dealbreaker, and can easily be overcome with some cutting, transfers, freehand or plastic chapter icons.

I haven't been keep track of the rules-side as that's largely irrelevant - but you strike a fair point. The assumption that everything will get a MPK is based more in wishful thinking than reality. It's definitely something we ought to be pushing more frequently on social media.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Suppressors crop up again further down the line. The company clearly aren't done with Primaris just yet.

You'd be surprised how wrong you are; my previous employer has had to can two individual moulds as a result of the pandemic and take the costs on the nose. Warlord have had to delay or outright cancel releases they've already paid for plastic-wise, and the same applies to many other companies across the industry - be it plastic, resin or metal. It's a rough situation right now.

I actually think these guys will be pretty easy to swap around with some other thing, so as to have different poses and stuff. It's what I did years ago for my old bikes and I guess nothing has changed.

This just seems to be the way GW rolls now. Not everything in shadowspear got a full release either. Some stuff just never does. This is why suppressors are also limited to 3-man units, I think.

i'm not disappointed by the kit. At least they got a kit, unlike poor suppressors.

Lots of people expected suppressors to get the 3-6 and multi part kit treatment. eliminators never went 3-6 but did get a kit. Outriders got an ETB kit but no 3-6.

Couldn't tell you the logic.

Along these lines, the rumours of the plastic sisters line literal years before they were released were because someone had seen a mould.

Entirely possible the mould exists but its sitting benched as they hadn't done the rules/felt they had enough new boxes for this release.

Suppressors likely had feedback issues. What they do with the line may not be entirely set in stone, they may end up doing refinements to kits that act as sort of a trial.

The biggest problem with the current outrider kit is for armies that would typically want more than one squad. Ravenwing wants more bikes, WS perhaps want more bikes. So it doesn't quite serve the purpose for those.

Probably a reboxing, the Ravenwing bike squad has the same sprues and still has a SKU. There's some sort of churn going on right now I think.

It would be a little easier to stomach if they hadn't gotten rid of the firstborn Bike Squad.:verymad:

?

They are still in the Marine codex and available to buy.

My one disappointment is that the outriders are 3 and not 3-6, oh and that they can't have auto bolt rifles like the ATV.

I've really been waiting on a new DA Codex, but are these guys worth taking for Ravenwing? I love the look of the bikes but if you can't pose them much that might be a deal breaker beyond more than 1 squad of them. The new bikes do make my old bikes look dinky though. :/

I'm not certain they'll be worth taking in numbers comparison to RW black knights, etc. They'll be fine, but I think what we have will be better. I think I'll probably end up using a single squad of them.

I like the design, but especially the monopose sergeant with the helmet stuck on his belt will take some effort to customize, which I don't think is appropriate for how much money they have priced them at.

From a further modeling perspective, I think the existing Ravenwing upgrade sprue is a bit dated as well. It looks fine, but I'd really prefer that got a new version to work with a new bike kit.

I saw the sprues in Indominus and though "wow, they set these up to drop straight into a box of their own didn't they" and lo was I proven correct.

Even with the monopose kit I'd still buy another box if I didn't already have 13 Firstborn Bikers with a variety of options and four attack bikes. I really like the models but I have fast horde-clearing quite thoroughly covered already.

That outriders are hardlocked with no equipment options or variation in squad size, tells me that only the indomitus models'll be available for a while.

8th edition added the possibility for more than one codex dropping before the next edition, so there's a possiblity of a codex v2 that could have had updated rules with options if a mpc is dropped alongside that.

On the other hand, Surpressors were never revisited.

On the other, other hand, there were more fan reservations about the design of surpressors than that of the outriders.

So that leaves us where exactly? Who knows.

As you say Reinhard, I don't think it's very conclusive. I think it's obvious that Dark Angels and White Scars are going to be dissatisfied with the offering for various reasons.

The clamoring for more on bikes can be contrasted with the suppressors however, where I don't think there was popular demand.

As my opinion, I think suppressors are a hideous kit. I will openly admit the same about repulsor tanks, but I will also say the same about centurions. There are just kits I think are ugly, and the boundaries do not have anything to do with Primaris vs Firstborn.

Yes, you most certainly can. Has less to do with that and more that it's an expensive, repeated monopose kit.

Might be able to do some better kitbashing with it when the assault intercessor kit is released. Will take some slicing, but should be able to get some different arms on them.
