2k Scions/Inquisition

Hey all. I'm working up a Inquisition stormtrooper-themed army and I want both a fun, modeling portion and a playable tabletop portion. Since the Inquisition doesn't really have a workable list, I'll be using Scions to make up a tabletop army that has a couple of attached Inquisitors for thematic purposes. The general idea is to have a quick moving, shooty list with good psychic coverage. Here's the list itself:

Army- Battalion and Patrol Detachments (Militarum Tempestus)

Points: 1998

CP: 7 (-2 for Patrol, -1 for Alpha-Psyker, -1 for Inquisitorial Mandate, -1 for Advanced Countermeasures)

Battalion (133rd Lambdan Lions)

(Attached Agent of the Imperium) Inquisitor (Ordo Malleus): Force Stave, Inferno Pistol, Alpha-class Psyker- Power Through Knowledge, Mental Interrogation

HQ

Tempestor Prime: Power sword, Command Rod, Warlord Trait- Grand Strategist, Relic- Refractor Field Generator

Primaris Psyker: Force Stave, Laspistol, Nightshroud, Psychic Maelstrom

Troops

2x Scions squads (10 man, 4 plasma guns, sarge w/powersword)

2x Scions squads (10 man, 4 plasma guns, vox-caster, sarge w/powerfist)

Scion squad (6 man, 2 plasma guns, sarge w/powersword)

Scion squad (5 man, sarge w/powersword)

Elites

Commissar: Bolter

Scion Command squad (3 melta guns, vox-caster)

Officer of the Fleet: Laspistol

Flyer

Valkyrie: 2 Heavy Bolters, 2 Multiple-Rocket Pods, Lascannon, Advanced Countermeasures

Dedicated Transports

4x Taurox Prime: Taurox Gatling Cannon, 2 Hot-Shot Volley Guns, Storm Bolter

Patrol Detachment (133rd Lambdan Lions)

(Attached Agent of the Imperium) Inquisitor (Ordo Hereticus): Combi-flamer, Inquisitorial Mandate, Trait- Formidable Resolve, Relic- Blade of the Ordo

HQ

Tempestor Prime: Powersword, Command Rod

Primaris Psyker: Force Stave, Laspistol, Psychic Barrier, Gaze of the Emperor

Troops

3x Scions squads (5 man, sarge w/chainsword)

Elites

Scions Command squad (3x grenade launchers, vox-caster)

The tactical thoughts I have is to have both Tempestor Primes in a Taurox with one of the 5-man bare-bones squads and a command squad, while the other two Taurox will have the 10 man plasma squads without voxs. The Taurox will be split up so that each Tempestor Prime will have two Taurox, a command squad, a 5 man squad, and a 10 man plasma squad with them. The Inquisitors will travel in the Valkyrie with both Primaris Psykers, the Commissar, and the 6 man plasma squad, for a very mobile distraction/mini-deathball. The remaining two 10 man plasma squads with vox and the single remaining 5 man bare-bones squad will be in grav-chute deployment waiting for deepstrike or objective grabbing. I think it could work as an objective taking, mobile shooty list that will work decently against SM/CSM, Nids, and Necrons (my current opponents).

Thoughts? I have a feeling that this could be a decent, casual list that may be able to slug it out against some of the middle-tier competitive lists. Any advice, as I've not been a IG player ever and probably need some?

- Only 7 CP at 2k hurts.

- You're pretty light on AT; perhaps switch multiple rocket-pods for Hellstrike missiles?

- Don't take grenade launchers unless you have a *thing* for them. They cost as much as a Hotshot Volleygun which is actually useful.

- Valkyrie doesn't need Advanced Countermeasures unless you plan to hover, where it can be melee'd to death. Just use the stratagem for safe disembarkation instead.

- Don't put the refractor field on your Warlord. He has a big enough bulls-eye on his back already.

- You're pretty deep in 'agent of', have you considered squeezing in an assassin or two?

I'd really try to squeeze in another Tempestor Prime, you have 9(?) units that can take orders and only 2x2 sources.

- Valkyries have 12 seats and I count 10 men riding? 6 scions, inq, psyker, psyker, commissar. You could rejigg this. One 'death star' suggestion would be: Inq, commissar, psyker, psyker as before then add two 4 man command squads loaded with 8 Plasma/Melta/death. Deep striking a Tempestor Prime would be heavily recommended.

- can't malleus inquistors take terminator armour? That way he could deepstrike too/instead. Although there is something graphic about flying in with a screaming bird :)

Thanks.

- 7 CP can be unfortunate, but is actually something that I'm fairly used to as I rarely had more than that during 8th ed, and don't usually have more than that with my main "competitive" Harlequin/Craftworld list after buying relics, detachments, and pre-game strats. The regen CP per turn, plus the chance that the psyker Inquisitor can possibly gain a CP has worked so far in my Incursion games, where I start even lower at a bare 2 CP.

- True, I'm going to be using a Corvus Blackstar as a counts-as Valkyrie and the rocket pods looked closer to the Blackstar's weaponry. I can easily change that though.

- The grenade launchers are there because my Stormtroopers are Solar Auxilia models and the command squad comes with a meltagun and a grenade launcher. Not my first choice, but since I have them I might as well use them...

- True, I guess I never really looked at that stratagem- it basically does the same thing I want it to without going into hover.

- I mainly dislike the fact that he only has an armor save and no invuln, wanted some help with AP weaponry. Is there a better relic available?

- Depends on the opponent mainly- I have hit or miss luck with any assassin I've used.

I will have a third Tempestor Prime model after I get all this stuff (3 Solar Auxilia command squads lord militant), so depending on what I sacrifice I could take one.

- Both Inquisitors would go in the Valk, so it would have a total of 11. Psychic Inq and Primaris Psykers provide Smite/buff to the Scions, while the regular Inq serves as their morale booster. And the commissar kills off either psyker if they Peril.

- They can, but I don't have my Terminator Inquisitor done yet, only my current two. Since it is a themed army, I tend to take them even if they aren't super great.

The CP use is an interesting side debate.

Pre-game CP spend normally gives a guarenteed effect - not all in game ones do. For example I reckon i must statistically roll a 1 for my re-rolled dice 80% of the time!

Or for example taking a second battalion rather than a brigade - costs 3CP but saves approx 250pts (don't ahve to get 3 fast attack or heavy weapon slots for example).

Read game commentary of harlequin winner of GT last week he argued he spent all CP by end T1 almost every game as spent heavily on strats/relics/traits etc.
