How to paint Imagifier's....Image thingy

Indefragable

Recommended Posts

First off, what do you call the think on top of the pole she's carrying? Icon? Symbol? Standard?

Secondly, what do you call the material that it would be made out of, when it's the white/off-white-ish all-over as depicted on the box-art? Alabaster? Porcelain? Stone? Marble?

Thirdly, any suggestions on how to go about painting it?

My struggle is even just figuring how to search for guides when I don't even know what to call it, let alone the material it's supposed to be made out of.

Thanks in advance.

I call the thing an Icon, the material alabaster, and I painted mine using Zandri Dust as the base, with highlights drybrushed on using Ushbati Bone and Pallid Wych Flesh, as show here:

(I tried something with the yellow shade that I wouldn't do again)

If you wanted to get close to the color they used for those Martyred Lady sisters, I think it's Rakarth Flesh as a base, Reikland Fleshshade for the shading, and then Flayed One Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh for the highlights. Also, they did the "blades" of the sunburst or whatever in a differently, brass-y color.

I hope I was of some help.

Quick method: I would paint that icon as stone/marble atop a steel pole. Prime white, wash it with agrax earthshade and drybrush white. Paint details to your taste.

Instead of agrax you could try one of the contrast brown paints.

Aggaros Dunes might be a good choice, though it is a bit more on the yellow side

I don't have a Imagifier yet, but I was planning on going with more of a mettallic color for mine. My army does use a heavy dose of silver and gold though

The thing she is carrying would most likely be referred to as a Processional.  In Catholic Mass it would be a cross on a long pole.  They seem to be combining several items from Catholicism into this one model, like the relic or statue that would be carried down from the monastery to the town or back up the mountain on certain feast days.  And the halo effect reminds me of the Monstrance which looks like a gold wreath.

Historically the statues that are of similar color could have been made from any of those materials you mentioned but would have not been mounted on a long pole.  I think the effect GW was going for was a marble.  But I think if it were done in real life, it would been carved from wood and painted, perhaps with metal accents for the wreath.

Good background info, but I don't think it would be comparable to a Monstrance, as the Imagifier is more like an icon or statue or symbol than an actual holy item, but that's my own take on it (though I know you referenced the Monstrance more for the halo-y effect).

I just find it weird to carry a statue (you know, the things that weigh like 200lbs?) on a pole into the middle of battle....so my own take is that it would more likely be elegantly carved wood, such as the figurehead on the front of a sailing vessel, or at least some kind of lighter-weight material than actual stone. Hence my dilemma.

Well consider that suffering is considered a blessing to the sororitas, and it being bestowed by the representation of a saint would make it even more sacred. Also power armour and it's relative strength enhancing properties.

The sisters of battle are the faction that can get away with the most 40kisms because they're zealotry and fanaticism taken to the extreme.

I can definitely see a Sister of Battle beating a traitor to death with a marble statue at the end of a 10 foot pole.

It certainly would work!

Ok let's go with wood.

Do you have a painted sister so we can see what the rest of your army looks like?
