Base for Acastus Knight Porphyrion

Ok, I did it. I ordered a Porphyrion (there goes the Christmas bonus...). Absolutely love the model and have been eyeing it for ages. However I just found out it comes without a base.

How would you go about that?

- Leave it without a base? That feels and looks wrong when all other knights in the army got one.

- Use an official GW base? 160 mm round 170x105 oval are the biggest ones they sell. The models "toes" would hang over the base in both cases.

- Make my own base? Could that get me in trouble at events? I know it's not the most competitive, but I wanna put it one the table nonetheless.

Any other tips and suggestions for building and painting such a large model would help too. I know about cleaning the parts and pinning anything heavy.

This is my first larger FW model. Your input is highly appreciated.

Look for wood plaque bases. Stores like micheals, hobby lobby or diy shops should have variety of sizes and finishes for likely what gw charges for their large plastic bases

Found a seller who does varies sizes of large round and oval bases. Guess I'll go for a 210mm x 115mm oval or 200 mm round base and hope no issues arise. (Probably just gonna hurt myself with a larger base being unable to move through a tightly packed board anyway)

If you ever play competitive you’ll want a standard size knight base or likely get called on for modeling for advantage. Bigger or smaller base gives a Knight either movement or board control advantages it isnt meant to have.

You can combine two knight bases, that gives it enough space to stand, with enough area around it to make it stable.

The largest GW round base (160mm) is not really a good fit, the feet barely touch down at both ends.

This is the reason I made the entire base decoration flat - only the feet count (as it doesn't come with a base), so its physical base is free for everyone to move on. No one complained so far, as seeing such a model tip over is a quite understandable risk otherwise.

I need to contact the guy that made my knight bases to see if he'll do a custom like this, but with the major cracks coming from the feet positions.

I knew why I posted that question here. Didn't even think of that!

Guess I'll just use a large round mdf base but simply ignore the base in term of gameplay.

It doesn't come with a base because it's so large, so by GW's rules you don't need to base it.

But I don't think any tournament would give you issues for wanting to base a very expensive model for stability purposes. Go with what you feel is best (imo, base it for peace of mind)
