New Codex SM supplements?

The current supplements(8th ed) are 9th edition compatible. It was a big announcement when the new marine book came out. AFAIK there is no talk or point in new ones, aside from saving you updating the FAQs :)

They are, but some of them are pretty outdated and sub par already.

They definitely need an update.

Yeah a ton of the new rules made the Raven Guard codex meh compared to anything coming out so far. Of course shafting all but the Big Four is nothing new for those of us not playing BA DA SW and UM.

Even the “not” SM Chapters like DeathWatch are getting better treatment than an off brand Founding Chapter

Yes, a bit salty at the moment.

I think if they had any supplements ready for the near future they would’ve mentioned it at the same time as the other supplements.

Whilst I agree that some of the supplements have been significantly reduced in effectiveness with changes in rules, unit abilities and points cost, I doubt they’ll get fixed soon. Remember that even though SM are the poster boys, GW are actually quite ok with leaving them with middling/weak rules for extended periods like most of 8th for example.

I think GW will (quite rightly) prioritise armies that have been languishing for a while with outdated books, some of which were quite poor to begin with. There’s plenty of worthy candidates ready for an update even just on the imperium side, let alone chaos and Xenos factions.

Actually I'd rather all Marines get updated first.

Why should one chapter be much worse than another? They all share a main codex now.

After they have been updated, GW can dedicate the next few years to other factions.

I suspect that GW will eventually replace the 8th edition codex supplements for Codex: Space Marines, but that they are much lower in priority than codices for other factions. While somewhat outdated (and potentially nerfed), most of the 8th edition Codex: Space Marines codex supplements remain usable with the 9th edition Codex: Space Marines. Most other factions, meanwhile, require an overhaul to align them with the 9th edition rules (and hopefully bring them into parity in terms of balance).

I'm sure they will all be re-done in time but ultimately, all those chapters at their core are using one of the only 9th Edition Codexes. That puts them in a far superior spot to most other factions in the game.

I don't mind the supplements coming soonish as long as it's alongside Codexes for other factions, not ahead of them. Like, if Ultramarines and Tyranids both come out in March, okay, but if Ultramarines are in March and then Tyranids are waiting until November, that's not cool.

I guess I was just hoping for more updated fluff! But thanks for the answers so far, chaps!

The core rulebook, in my opinion, did a great job delivering new fluff and giving an idea of the state of the galaxy. Ninth edition hasn't had a big jump like 7th to 8th or 3rd to 4th so I think most of the new fluff is going to be via Black Library and be smaller in scope.

at first there will be the BA and DA Supplement. And then the Black Templars deserve one (the first book) before any other chapter get a new book.

And in addition to this, there shouldnt be new supplements before Eldar, Dark Eldar, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, Astra Militarum and Tyranids get a new book ( I forget the Tau but they could be squated in my opinion  ).

After this books

Templars do deserve a book of their own imho. After Emperors Children naturally ;)

I don’t think Black Templars deserve a Supplement. I think Crusading Chapters deserve a Supplement, with Black Templars being the template.

"Crusading Chapters" is extremely vague and provides for a huge range of Chapters. The Crimson Fists were a crusading Chapter at one time, and they looked nothing like the Black Templars. Similarly, any number of Chapters have gone on crusades, including penitent crusades, without looking anything like the Black Templars. For example, when we first met the Relictors (properly the Fire Claws), they were on a penitent crusade. Similarly, the Executioners, Mantis Warriors, and Lamenters all went on penitent crusades after losing the Badab War, and those three Chapters are all very different from each other and the Black Templars.

Realistically, you could use any codex supplement for Codex: Space Marines to create a crusading Chapter. Being a crusading Chapter doesn't mean being like the Black Templars.

My money is on the Black Templars getting a codex supplement at some point.

Rumour is BT book is happening.

It's happening. And the sooner the better.

GW have an opportunity to knock this out of the park with a few Primaris characters and perhaps a unique variant unit of the Assault Intercessors.
