....Would this be weird..? Old character models

Odd query, may not quite be the place for it. However, I like many CSM players have quite a few character models who I seemed to pick up along the way to fill slots like lords, exalted champions, old custom bashed dark apostle's and so forth. In 9th, with one detachment and most CSM characters falling into the HQ bracket - unfortunately a lot of these models don't have reason to see the tabletop currently.

Such is life with new editions. A thought had occurred to me though, a bunch of them would be on 32mm bases and would essentially be a power armour model with bling, so why not use them as extra fancy aspiring champions for units?

My only concern is that they do stand out as more then another model with a power weapon or something so it may cause confusion as not the done thing. On the other hand I want to use my best looking models and they are WYSIWYG equipment wise.

So I guess the question is - would you be for/against this and what are you doing with your old character models who are no longer needed to fill in 3 detachments?

If you like, a battalion detachment and a patrol detachment will only cost you -2 CP for the patrol one if the warlord is in the batalion and open up 5 HQ slots, and you want 4 troop slots to use up in 9th IMO anyway and we got cultists to keep troops points down. Although you might be hurting for CP if you start factoring in FW stuff and tooling up the HQ's with extra relics and WLT's.

I'm not too familiar with 9th Ill bet this is a common issue with lots of armies (I wanted to continue with my Thousand Sons but they REALLY feel the character limitation) It's only a matter of time before GW puts out a supplement or rules adjustment (wasn't it always april for faqs?) to cram more back in.

In the meantime do what you want! Between old-style and new style CSM scaling and fluffwise warp power, CSM could be all over the place! And biggest doesn't always mean best; SM as individuals are supposed to range in height and more combat prowress/leadership could indicate HQ's over a champion.

TLDR; everyone wants more HQ's, GW will likely address this eventually, Until then, do what you want!

Thanks folks, I think I'll run with the idea. Rule of cool and all that.

Will they match the base size of the rest of the unit? All my characters get 40mm bases, so its for me limited in where they could end up. I don't own a single character that is on a base smaller than the 40mm ones, I think they look better on that size IMO.
