Is there some production reason im not aware of? I mean rather than me raging that theres no reason they couldnt have made the armour plates other than cutting corners? 
It all seems eminently dooable even on a smaller scale.
Its weird that i never noticed the difference, though ive built both an Atrapos and an Archeon at 40k scale where i must have spent a lot more time staring at their legs
