2k Tanith First and Only

Well I finally collected enough models to make this army, just waiting for a few bits to finish off the conversions. Trying to build the army as they appeared after Vervunhive, but before Phantine. I hate the Sentinel Company as it doesn't fit with anything that ever happened in the books, but the only other FA option are Hellhounds. The aircraft will be painted up like the Phantine as well. What do you think?

oh man the pull to do something similar is strong!

 

I wonder if we'll get the ghosts as a new regiment for codex.....

 

Your choice of doctrine fits perfectly.

 

From my memory of reading books shouldn't it thematically be missile launchers as heavy weapon choice.

 

Could use Yarrick as Gaunt? 

 

You could go dual battalion then wouldn't need either the sentinels or heavy weapon teams......

 

Could you ally in Celastine :)

Tread fethers are a popular heavy weapon, but they also uses heavy stubbers and autocannons a lot. Bragg often uses a heavy bolter or autocannon as a rifle.

 

I've thought about running Celestine as Saint Sabbat, but my army is built before the battle of Phantine therefore Sabbat hasn't returned.

 

Not a bad idea about the double battalion though...

Fantastic man! I think you've nailed the flavor entirely And really enjoy the naming of larkin as an assassin.

Thematically it does seem a high preponderance of bolters on sgts in the line infantry, while I get the efficacy of such inclusions I feel like it doesn't jibe with the Firsts book presence.

Oh the bolters. Those are lasguns with "hotshot packs." The only actual bolt weapon is Gaunt's pistol.

Got some more ebay models, and made some revisions to the list:

 

Just to note, all bolters I play as lasguns with opponent's permission, or just call them lasguns with Hot-Shot packs if they refuse. All Heavy Bolters are modeled as heavy stubbers as well. The army is built as they were portrayed at the Battle of Phantine from the book "The Guns of Tanith." All planes will be painted up as the Phantine Air Corps.

Raising this thread from the dead... @Steve Antilles, any new lists that feature Gaunt's Ghosts? Posting mine shortly!

Yes! Been working on a few models trying to put a new list together with the new unit. All Bolters are "Hot-shot lasguns," and all Heavy Bolters are "Heavy Stubbers. The Ratling squad is an elite squad of Tanith snipers, all the old metal Larkins, lol. Here's what I got so far:

A very cool, thematic list! You can absolutely drown your opponent in Guardsmen... what is that just about 200 models? Crazy! I really like the use of Ratlings, they definitely fit the bill when it comes to their accuracy, its just a shame you have to drop down to S/T 2  to get it. One thing that I "worry" about is your Flamer/Missile Infantry Squads. You'll rarely be wanting to move those squads so as to not take the -1 to Hit, but you still need to get within 12" for the Flamer to go off. If it were me, I think I'd go put all your Flamers in SWS, and slap the Snipers in those Missile Infantry Squads. Similarly, the meltaguns in those Squads kind of lose out... could you give them Plasma instead and swap the Meltas over to a Veteran Squad? Outflanking Veteran Meltas could work really well against some lists. I'm not a huge fan of Mortars in this style list, and the single unit probably won't prove so effective against anything hiding out of LoS... more tread fethers!! That being said Dark Eldar are a thing and more autocannons could be really clutch. I'm not sure what your thoughts on relics were, but Laurels of Command could be useful, the Dagger of Tu'sakh could be handy too. I don't think you'll be too CP starved as most infantry-related strats are cheap and often situational, so you could probably forgo Kurov's (it can't be everywhere can it?).
