Daemon Engines getting buffed

So, based on the recent Death Guard news and GW saying specifically that all CSM will get the same buffs, what do you all think about Daemin Engines going to WS3+/BS3+ and, it appears, gaining more attacks?

I think this is pretty huge and will go a long way toward making everything from Forgefiends to Defilers to DG-specefic Plagueburst Crawlers much more competitive choices.

Thoughts?

I wonder if this will mean the Lord Discordant's aura will be changing. A 6" bubble of +1 to hit rolls for 3+/3+ daemon engines would be ridiculously overpowered.

Maybe it'll become another reroll of 1s or a pick one daemon engine per round sort of thing.

Very good change in a vaccuum. However, I'm curious to see if we'll see any changes to the Lord Discordant and Daemonforge strat.

The most exciting thing about this to me is that GW are demonstrating that they aren't afraid of completely overhauling things, even things that have "always been so" - Daemon Engines have mostly been hitting on 4+ since the Defiler came out in 3.5E, for example.

Glad to see it. The defiler having bad WS and BS back in the day made sense because it had blast and twin linked weapons, and was supposed to represent it being a crazed creature flailing randomly. It had worse accuracy but tons of shots/attacks, especially compared to other similar things (like dreadnoughts at the ti me.)

They kept other daemon engines at the same stats for no particular reason. I guess they defaulted to 4's because 3's was supposed to be space marine/elite territory. It would have been fine if they'd also had twin linked weapons or huge amounts of attacks, but they didn't.

Well, with the old twin linked weapons how they worked back then, having a twin linked gun basicly improved your to hit by giving re-rolls, so that averages out as +1 to hit/ +1 BS stats wise, twin linked BS 3 is basically BS 4 in the old system. The extra BS boost is very good to see now, considering twin linked justs doubles firepower instead via extra shots. Now I think I have a rickety, poorly assembled defiler kicking around somewhere, was one of the first CSM units I got for my old BL.

Improving to a 3+ is going to be great, I do quite like my daemon engines so this will push getting more up the agenda (and they were already pretty high) :smile.: Extra attacks on top will really make a difference in effectiveness compared to their present form where they can go sideways a bit too readily. So far the new codex is sounding nice here's hoping this continues with some other improvements to come (looking at you DttFE, Marks, and Icons...)

With the DG release, do we think we will get an errata to update units with crossover to C:CSM?

I only ask this because in the WHC post it sounded like we would have to wait for our codex to drop to see any changes

At minimum they'll have to FAQ any shared units between the books.

Unfortunately that's incorrect:

As with the improvements to Plague Marines, the upgrades to Daemon Engines will also be carried over to the other Heretic Astartes armies when they get their new codex.

So basically, my Night Lords are staying in their box until Codex: Chaos Space Marines (9e) comes out. Weeeeeeeeeeeee

I really don't get GW on this release schedule, if we are getting updated plauges, engines, and weaponry...... can't they just drop an FAQ they could throw together in 10 minutes that would allow us to use some updated profiles?

Its odd and also frustrating.

But this would mean work and work is eww.

I think its bloody brilliant that daemon engines are getting buffed, they are so integral to our armies and the previous WS/BS was quite frankly nonsense.  For instance fleet commanders in the legions mostly use daemons for targeting and fighting in their battleships and fighter ships, like Urkathos who only used daemons for such purposes, if daemons were so bad at aiming etc. then why would Abaddons greatest fleet commander settle for daemons instead of Astartes etc.
