Deathwatch FAQ Released 17/12/20

Surprised they didn't do more or clarify more considering the whole list of questions I collated. I wonder if folks were as committed to sending in that list as I would have thought they were. *hrmmmmmm*

Successor Tactic vs Successor Chapter Tactic is a subtle difference, but important enough I suppose. Still annoyed that you can't do it in your opponents turn. Poor Raven Guard trait, you will never be used....

Pts adjustments are appreciated. WM going up a nickle is what it is. Still can't use bolter discipline with his "VIGIL spear" :censored: (insert daffy duck cussing)

Ultimately though, the thing that truly pisses me off: The Corvus can transport Terminators....Jump Packers......Bikers.....CENTURIONS!!!! but can't transport a single primaris. :wallbash: :wallbash: :furious: :furious:

Am I missing something or is it still cheaper (in terms of power rating) to take a Proteus Kill Team than it is to take the same number of Deathwatch Veterans?

I'd been waiting to start my Deathwatch Crusade force until the FAQ came out and I'm still not sure this can be right!

Cool now I can put 4 centurions, librarian and Apothecary into a Corvus Blackstar

I like the slight drop in stalkers for vets. As well as the drop for frag cannons

4 Centurions fills the whole Corvus. Characters have to walk.

I don't know why but I have repeatedly messed up thinking the Corvus has 14 capacity for years.

In the DW terminator squad section on pg 2 it says the following:

Delete ‘Power axe’, ‘Power maul’ and ‘Power sword’

Does this mean that the Termie squads cant use these weapons anymore?

That's the pts lines they're deleting on page 61, not the wargear options.

We all make mistakes like that. What I am happy about is able to take a squad of 5 vets and 4 van without packs and a biker for a charge and fall back and charge unit.

Can anyone clarify this point for me?

‘While a Fortis Kill Team unit only contains Outriders, it has the Biker keyword and loses the Infantry keyword.’

Does this mean they lose obsec?
Does combat squadding create a separate kill team, or would keeping backline intercessors still work?

They lose the keyword.

Does it say: the unit is no longer a Troops Battlefield role?

The FAQ is a mess... now DW terms pay more for heavy weapons than normal terminators, sigh.  The points were identical, why did this need an errata, why even change it?

Didn't answer hardly any question put forward aside from if blackshields can be in proteus, still forced to take them as an addon instead of in place of a vet though.  Lots of stuff, but mostly it was just consistency changes.  Only positive I guess, and unexpected is specializations are cheaper?

Riiight.. my bad. it's the troops role that gives obsec. of course.

Sorry, I'm still pretty new to warhammer

I see no mention of strats that give Battlefield roles affecting Specialisms, so I'm guessing that only while in the Army Battlefield role will Specialisms get their boost.

I'm only mentioning this because I was reading a review of the Space Wolves update and they were commenting that it looked like Savage Fury could not be used on a unit that has Assault Doctrine active via a strat.

well I am not sure how the current Chapter tactics + Specialisms and Altering a units doctrinal status are in the same sort of scrutiny.

You choose chapter tactics <role> and when a specialist matches with the tactics they get the 'reroll all wounds'...you can change chapter tactics 1 time with the Stratgem and it persists until EoG. The vigilance incarnate WL trait straight up says it grants a reroll 1s vs <role>. In the Specialisms page it is worded 'if you selected the <role> for your chapter tactic......' maybe they intended it to be RAW as it is or not. But they don't preface the reroll all wounds with 'if they already reroll 1s against <role>'

In regards to the doctrinal bonuses when using adaptive strategy or the dark angels WL to alter a units doctrinal status its pretty detailed to include text saying that any attacks made my those units are to be made as if <doctrine> is active. Savage fury and super doctrine bonuses fall into that because it is an ability carried within the faction keyword bonuses/abilities

Normally they are pretty specific with restrictions. Also best way to get them to specify them is to across the board is to play as 8f you are not restricted.
