Cryminysakes Posted December 18, 2020 Share Posted December 18, 2020 So I'd like to start reading some of the books - drill down specifically into Grey Knight structure and lore beyond the bare bones history from the likes of Luetin and 40 Theories etc. Wanted to get advice on where to start. Plus, Garro is a certified badman. Yeah the Garro audio dramas are pretty awesome, they were some of the first stuff I listened to, while I was getting into the hobby, 9 or so years ago. Sothalor Posted December 18, 2020 Share Posted December 18, 2020 If you're looking specifically for Grey Knights fiction, the Black Library site is a good place to start, as BL does everything in-house. If you're looking for how to get your hands on physical copies of books, that may be a little bit trickier, as BL does everything in-house. My observation over the years has been that it means all of their print runs are essentially limited editions - and I don't mean the official Limited Editions that come out 6 months before the general release. They order up a certain amount for a publication - and that's it. They're not constantly printing more copies of Book X or whatever - if they ordered up, say (and I'm pulling numbers from my posterior here, not citing actual figures) 20,000 hardcover copies of a novel, that's all there will be. However many end up in consumers' hands, or sit on retailer shelves or in warehouses, that's it. Occasionally they'll do reprints, but those are also discrete batch orders. What this means for you is that you're essentially looking at the second-hand market at this point. I would say check bookseller retailers first - Barnes and Noble if you're in the US, for example. I know B&N carries Black Library books - they often have physical copies of stuff when BL doesn't. Second, check your local game store - whether that be an official GW store or a third party. If they carry Warhammer stuff, chances are they have some BL novels (this appears to be a contractual obligation, from what I can tell). After that, check out any local used book stores. This one is far more of a crapshoot, but you never know. There's one in my city that has a shelf full of old BL stuff going back years - I can still find like... individual novels of the Inquisition War trilogy. The ADB book is really good although I would read the Ravenor books first and before that the Eisenhorn books although both Inquisitor series are not strictly necessary. Pandorax is OK and the GK cameo is cool. I have not read Sons of Titan, but there are a few short stories around that are pretty good as well. The Woodsman Posted January 9, 2021 Share Posted January 9, 2021 I've just finished reading the Beast Arises series... a 12-book ride that tells the tale of the largest Ork Waaagh! since Ullanor, and basically the creation of the Deathwatch, the 4th Founding of SM Chapters and how the Inquisition saw its first Ordos come to be, the Ordo Malleus and Ordo Xenos. Throughout the series there is some mention of Titan and our shiny silver lads, but towards the end of the last book (The Beheading) is a nice little Easter egg for us, for those who have the wish to read through twelve books... The Woodsman Posted January 12, 2021 Share Posted January 12, 2021 I could... we may or may not come across a certain Supreme Grand Master (dare I say the first...), and for those who have read the first of the Heresy Books (Horus Rising, False Gods, etc.), an old friend of iterating qualities may or may not be the (only) Inquisitorial representative to the Knights of Titan... Yeah, not to clash over details, but I was merely pointing out some cool little tidbits in an otherwise un-related series, although Grey Knights are closely linked to the Inquisition and the series is kind of about the Inquisition.
