Mad Max inspired Scenario

Hey everyone!

So, the local White Scar player of my group and I were discussing pitting his Primaris Outrider list against my Firstborn Ravenwing bikers, in a fast paced "Mad Max Fury Road" inspired scenario, based off of one done by the guys at Miniwargaming a long time back.

If possible, would anyone care to share ideas or suggestion on how this could work, with the Objective System of 9th edition?

So far what I have thought about goes like this:

  • Between 1500 and 2000 points, on a 44 by 60 board.
  • At least 1000 points of the list MUST be bikers, speeders, transports, aircraft, or jump pack units (for simplicity, I'll refer to these as Caravan Units)
  • Deployment would be on the two corners of one of the short ends of the board.
  • Everything that is NOT a Caravan Unit and which CANNOT infiltrate, MUST be placed in reserves, but it costs no CP to do so.
  • Caravan Units follow regular deployment rules (that is, you can put them in reserves through CP)

The scenario would work as follows:

  • At the beginning of the battle d3 objective markers are placed equidistantly and on a horizontal line, at 12 inches from the edge of the board opposed to the one the players deploy in
  • At the beginning of each battle round every piece of terrain, objective marker, and unit that is NOT a Caravan Unit (be them on the board, or on a piece of terrain) is moved 12 inches along the long side of the board, in a straight line, towards the one where the players deployed.
  • Caravan Units stay still, as long as their movement is 12" or more. If it is less, they are moved back with the terrain, but only a distance of 12" minus their Move.
  • If the movement of the table pushes a piece of terrain or unit out of the board, they are removed from play. Units lost this way are considered destroyed, unless they are Aircrafts, in which case they are considered to have gone into tactical reserves.
  • At the beginning of each battle round, from the 2nd and on, and after the board has moved, another d3 objective markers are placed, equidistantly and on a horizontal line, at 12 inches from the edge of the board opposed to the one the players deployed in.
  • Once 6 objective markers have been placed, no more objective markers are placed on the board again.
  • Also, at the beginning of each battle round, from the 2nd and on, and after the board has moved, d3 pieces of terrain are placed within 6 inches (or as close to this as possible) of the edge of the board.

Now,

  • If a piece of terrain or unit on the board makes contact with another unit because of this terrain movement, then:
    • If a unit collides with a piece of terrain which is an OBSTACLE, then that unit goes over the obstacle unharmed, but is moved back 2 inches. If this movement would leave the unit on top of the terrain, it suffers d3 Mortal Wounds.
    • If a unit collides with a piece of terrain which is anything other than an OBSTACLE, then the unit goes through the piece of terrain, but suffers d3 Mortal Wounds. If the movement would leave the unit on top of a terrain piece that has the Unstable Position trait, then every model that is on top of an Unstable Position piece of terrain is removed from play.
    • If a unit collides with another unit, then both units suffer 1 mortal wound.

So, how the battle goes?

  • In the movement phase, Caravan Units count as having already moved up to 12" of movement. Regular units count as not having moved.
  • Caravan units can then continue moving forward if they have move left. Regular units can move normally.
  • Caravan Units can also move backwards as far as the 12 inches the board has moved.
  • Each Carvan Unit can also move up to 6 inches laterally across the board, for free.
  • Advancing for Caravan Units and Regular Units means free movement in any direction the unit wants to move. The idea is that advancing will be THE way to quickly reposition on the board.
  • When in engagement range, units still move their mandatory movement at the beginning of each battle round. The units are considered to be fighting while at high speeds across the battlefield.
  • Falling Back from combat follows these same rules. That is, a unit that falls back can do so by moving forward their remaining movement, backwards as much as they were forcefully moved, and laterally up to 6 inches.
