New Palatine

Since thge Palatine is coming out in a box opposite Lelith Hesperax can we assume that the Palatine might be of roughly equivalent power? (I mean on the same level of power, not the same abilities)

I think it's just a weird mismatch. It would've been nice to expand the special character roster to some more universal characters for the sisters but it is what it is, they're not going to paint up another subfaction studio army for someone that isn't a space marine :whistling:

It's also a bit of an underwhelming model. If you're going to hit the enemy with some devotional items make sure they're big enough to hurt a la the old metal Canoness.

Lelith is a named character. A palatine is supposed to be below a canoness in rank and station. They should in no way be equivelant toe to toe.

It does seem odd.

The duel box sets don't really have any sort of balance between the characters.

For example: Prophecy of the Wolf was so hilariously imbalanced it's sad.

On the vehicle side sisters are definitely crushing it though. Look at that puny baby skimmer. Haha. BE CLEANSED BY THE EMPERORS FLAMES!

True! That Immolator (providing the box set permits the variant) can kick out 4 multi melta shots and 3 from the heavy bolter.

I think it's cool that the Sisters half of the box can combine all 3 units into one mechanized super unit. These sisters make sense from that perspective- like a palatine was given the task of bringing retributors to a flanking position and providing support through any aura effect as well as AoF support. Crusade-wise, as that character earns ranks, she'd be predisposed to skills that benefitted heavy support units. It's a nice little team; you can imagine the comic book story of them.

I'm wondering whether it will herald the release of our dex, and when it will come. I can't wait for bespoke Crusade content. I just know that Mortifiers and Repentia will be bespoke battle scar options and earning repentance and returning to the fold will be a battle honour or a requisition. It is weird to even be hopeful about getting our dex relatively early in the run. But this faction was featured heavily in the marketing for the edition, so who knows? Maybe we get lucky and break the curse. I hope they don't damage anything from the current dex too badly; really I'd just like the new units, Crusade content and weapon profile updates and leave the rest as is... New editions always make me nervous until the dexes drop.

I am ecstatic that DE are the opponents in the box. It calls me back to Soulstorm and makes me want to build bespoke DE terrain based on the video game. I like that both Warlords are women, and that women are well represented in the wych squad as well. I do think that traitor guard or a renegades and heretics reboot would have been a more characterful match-up given the SoB role as the suppressors of Heresy, but DE aren't a bad choice. They are the army that has sparked the most interest for me lately, and I have purchased pretty much an entire army- I just need to get it ready for the table. My Sister's force IS bigger, and benefits from the ability to incorporate other Imperial forces- I have some deathwatch and some inquisition units on deck.

Looking really forward to this box.

As for the Palatine model: I like her well enough; for me, the rosary is a symbol of faith, and it signifies that the model has just used, or is about to use an act of faith. I really like that, because I tend to build for maximum faith- I love Incensor Cherubs and Simulacra. Having sisters display items of faith reinforces the game element that makes the army unique. I might give her a scenic base or something a little extra- have to wait until the model is in hand to get a sense of the possibilities.

I'm going out on a limb saying it's the full-fat plastic kits in there.

That's all I could think of as well.

"That doesn't seem like a fair matchup..."

YES on Soulstorm

Great callback.

I do love the fact that it's two previously rarer factions having as showdown. It makes a lot of sense to me fluff wise, since I imagine Dark Eldar would perceive shrine worlds as relatively "soft" targets, or that the great and wonderful and wise Departmento Munitorum may not deem the time and effort and logistics necessarily to divert a full on battle force to deal with DE raiders who are in-and-out so quickly, so they request that the Adeptus Ministorum take care of this one.

It reminds me of this great picture. I'd love to see a Sisters vs Drukhari BL story, although I think Drukhari might be some of the most OP Xenos in BL stories lol

Only stuff I can remember reading on Drukhari was in Brotherhood of the Snake.

I like the look of the new model and I dont see her having named character stats so will be weaker than Lilth.

Slightly off topic, but I feel like Dark Eldar have kind of an inverse Word effect.

They don't feature often at all, but when they do, the writers are kind of forced to make them amazing in part to justify their rarity and also because the few genuine Dark Eldar fanatics out there wouldn't bother unless their Faction comes off well*.

*based on my conversations with the one guy who genuinely head-over-heels for them as a Faction/his favorite part of the setting.

Sisters are my fave, but DE is a very, very close second. That's why this box is so awesome. I'm hoping it doesn't drop til February, because I will have to preorder it in order to make sure I get a copy, but I was planning on snagging a Blood of the Phoenix box  in January and I can't do both.

This lady is unlikely to be winning in a fight against Lilith.

Looks more and more like the sisters are just getting an Lieutenant without the CORE keyword rider in their special rule. Not exactly complaining as the rule is good but I would still have preferred to see more stuff that moves the sisters away from being marine-lite.

I don't think they ever insinuated that it would be anything other than a lieutenant-type character.

As for not having the CORE keyword, that is strictly because nothing has that keyword for Sisters yet. When the codex is released and the CORE keyword is added to the appropriate units, I fully expect that her rule will apply to CORE units.

I think the sisters might just escape this by simply not having that many non-CORE that could overly abuse the re-roll one abilities.

Things that wont be CORE are characters who dont have the kind of staying power and out that marine characters do, possibly the church units (crusaders etc) that no one takes anyway because the sister options in the elites slot are better and the Exorcist which is already out preformed by multi-melta retributors which will be CORE.

Remember that if you take a Missionary as an HQ, ALL of your Battle Conclave Units (Arcos, Crusaders and DCA's) all become slotless. I think it even works on Pious Vorne and Gotfrett too- I think they got the Battle Conclave Keyword.

I've always wanted to build a funny Patrol Detachment that included 9 slotless Battle Conclaves, an Inquisitor as an attached Imperial Agent (Slotless HQ), and include a unit of Repentia to get 3 slotless Repentia superiors. I just think it would be funny.

The so-called "church units" are already excluded since they are not <Order> units.
