New Year's Day Preview (AT)

Recommended Posts

I'm excited for the new warbringer titan.

It's been going on for a long time now, but I find that releasing a new codex (or battletome in this case) and then releasing new stuff for that faction feels like a cheap move. Like surprise, the book you bought that's supposed to have the content for the faction actually doesn't. Most egregious was faith and fury, but lumineth are super new to be getting more content. Maybe it's a missing sculpt though.

Whatever that titanicus thing is - and it could be multiple models- it’s big. Broad carapace without much in the way of visible big guns, sizeable plasma weapons (multi-barrel thing?), layered chest plates and hip gyros that are integrated into the armour.

This isn’t the Rapier scout Titan folks have talked about. Could be the broad carapace is what a warbringer back without the nemesis mount looks like. Regular warbringer would be cool.

Could be... an up-armoured under-gunned melee-focuses warlord, nothing on the carapace, like the old nightgaunt build. Or possibly a new Titan concept developed from that, the mentioned Komodo or something.

Or, and let’s say it... imperator? The layered chest armour looks a little like some of the art. The gyros being integrated is what strikes me as unique, that looks more built in and maybe bigger than the warlord.

Frustratingly short preview ...

This said, I love the glimpse at the new AT titan. I guess it will be a heavier one than the warlord, I would bet just before Imperator-size. I'm not hoping for an imperator (or maybe am I?). The multi barrelled plasma gun has me excited. I initially thought they were showing a Dark Mechanicum engine followed by the other variant of the warbringer but this seems the same model. The layered armour is cool too (except for the trim, more trim to paint :sad.::wallbash: :teehee: ).

The vampire hunter seems cool, good fodder for conversions I guess.

And the Slaanesh stuff is quite nice, and just one of the seven sins ... are they going to explore each and every one of them?

Not super keen on previews that preview previews - particularly with a hangover. Also an obligatory "gif EC". If they bring the quality of those AoS sculpts to 40k.........

With the negativity out of the way, NEW TITAN! Yusssss. It is nice to see Adeptus Knightanicus Titanicus get back releasing an actual titan.

I think the titans another warbringer. The nemesis is a classification for ranged fire support; this could be a brawler type warbringer.

I can kind of see that for the carapace and a brawler titan would be great for the game. The rationale for the big intakes could be that it's got more engine power or something for barrelling into the enemy instead of extra guns.

The others though... From the video, all that segmented armour and the multi-barrel plasma arm weapon... those are big. Huge hips, huge armour panels (and more of them than even on the warlord), lots of detail on the arms/elbows, big space between the tops of the thighs and the torso. Those elements don't match the warbringer.

It looks like what we have is a multi-barrel weapon on the titan's right arm with narrow blue barrels and a sort of short snubby muzzle, at about 0.09-0.10, and then what looks like two or more plasma annihilators strapped together at angles (a bit like the ion cannons on the FW tau superheavy suit) on the left arm at about 0.14. These weapons don't really match a melee/close-range titan all that much and honestly look chunkier than even the warlord's weapons.

Apologies for the extremely garbage shop below (I might have missed/squished things on the titan's torso on the right of the image), but this is something new and, I think, bigger than a warlord. I think what we're looking at could even be updates/reimaginings of the imperator's helstorm cannon on the left and plasma annihilator on the right. It's a big call but... this thing's large.

I know FW talked about new titan classes between the stuff we know, the example so far being the warbringer between the reaver and the warlord. Possibly this is, if not an imperator, something between the warlord and the imperator? A warlord plus?

EDIT: I donked up the merging and missed the flag, slightly better if still dicey version below that shows e.g. the red banner thing. Still looks weird around the back of the plasma weapon but that seems to be how it's shrouded in darkness in the video:

@sandlemad no worries, Im super tired so I only caught the upper carapace parts. Looking cool and intriguing.

The only thing is I know the original designer wasn't the biggest fan of having an imperator in the game and the guy made a pretty good game all things considered. Hope it's done properly if they are going to do it

Yeah I'm kind of the same. My body says "imperator yes!" but my mind knows that a god-unit like an imperator has a lot of potential to do something strange to a (very well-designed by Hewitt) game of manoeuvre. Having a presumably near-indestructible model with immense firepower that can barely move, eh, it's got its own gravity and warps the game around it.

If it's just a resin display piece with a light dusting of rules, cool, then it becomes the same type of thing as a 40k scale titan is to a 40k scale game: a fun unit for big games that doesn't really have the burden of needing to be a balanced or normal part of the game. Make it plastic and that's a big difference. I guess we'll see.

That carapace could well still be for something different mind. I'm not brave enough to try and link it up and it doesn't have the imperator's characteristic spires and buttresses visible anywhere. A decent-sized brawler titan really would be rad and make for a cool game-changer.

For reference - the art I just posted is Jes Goodwin's original Reaver Warlord Titan concept, so it might just be another class of that.

EDIT: Adding another mash-up from the 40k Discord that built on Sandlemad's original.

Seriously are we discussing about glimpes of two 40k models of wich one is probably a 1000£ titan from FW and one a reused footage from another video?

GW as usual teased they made a great revealed and then they showed 1 model and pieces of other ones

But they are doing right cause people are feeding themselves over the discards like they were stray cats eating what they find in the trash bin

I had very low expectations about this reveal but GW are masters of deluding you even if you have low expectations

That was a titanicus Titan wasn’t it?

I’m super excited for the witch Hunter if that’s what it is

Either that or a new imperial knight maybe

Design elements (and the size of them) are consistent with Titanicus - it's for that system.

Some interesting stuff in there - more Lumineth, a new Undead bloke, the Witch Hunter and Slaanesh centre-piece are all new. It's odd that we've gotten a second tease for the Skitarii, but hey ho; it was a bit jarring seeing the print lines.

There was also a blatant Titanicus emblem on the model. It's something for Adeptus Titanicus, definitely.

I think you need less salt on your eggs in the morning.

Yes, the Ad Mech shot was incredibly phoned in, and I'm guessing the model was supposed to drop months ago, but got pushed back due to covid related back log and they didn't have more footage to use on short notice when almost everyone is working from home. The Titan is likely Titanicus though, so even if it's from FW, it's not going to be that expensive.

And the AoS teasers were good. I get this is a 40k board, but people do play AoS and it got largely sidelined in 2020 so them getting some Q1 love is completely fair.

I will play AoS with slaneesh (i was interested to dwarves after they put bretonnia in the trash bin -thanks WHTOW for saving Bretonnia- but they made a mess with the short people so i gave up that game until slaneesh appeared) so i was interested in that palanquin that completes the Edonites range but having a 40K reveal made by a reused footage and a model for a minor game is totally underwhelming

More underwhelwing than the underwhelming word itself

Adeptus Titanicus is a game i would like if it wanst silly based on HH only (cmon they are inventing new titans cause they already finished the range in the first months of the game) so people in my gaming group would be interested too (you know people that dont like imperial titans cause they play eldar or orks or tau)

And i dont eat eggs in the morning... eggs have too much cholesterol to eat them more than one time per week...

AT is better for HH only because it's GASP balanced due to it. Everyone is on an even playing field because all of the Titans are the same base, much like how 30k is a better balanced game because it's basically "Space Marines and friends" and the main factions of the game ate the same base, just with different Legion Rules and Rites of War to differentiate them

Let's be honest, if the game wasn't HH we'd only see people playing the OP Eldar or Tau titans in it, and no one wants that crap.

Yea, it's almost like AT didn't actually even need a new titan or the three new knights because the game play itself is so strong and the various legios and maniples add so much variation. Idk, it's always funny to hear people who don't play AT comment on how stale it is with just imperials.

That the whole thing is a teaser for teasers is bleh but honestly, I can’t think of anything for 40k that’s as exciting to me as even the sniff of a potential imperator or new titan class for AT. The AoS stuff is cool too.

The Porphyrion wasn’t great but it’s pretty minor as a balance issue compared to however many other things for the core games.

The HH era is a crutch AT will grow beyond eventually, but for now its not the end of the world to see some interesting new Titans that utilise modern tech and design tools. The game will die if they just keep iterating on that though, just like the Heresy benefitted hugely from the non marine factions only in the case of AT there really isnt anywhere to go other than Xenos, well, except Tanks and infantry but then thats a different game really.

Poryphrions were Uber balanced as was phosphex...

Both HH and AT have issues and aren't perfectly balanced. All games are breakable and they're no exceptions...

And both games were fine without either. Honestly just reinforces my point even more; you don't need new stuff for the sake of it when the core mechanics work well.

Well the game might not need it, but if you want to continue having sales, you need a steady stream of new stuff.

Sure, and I'm glad the game sold well enough to even warrant follow-up releases like the warbringer. But that's very different from the game play being stale and needing new titans to keep it interesting.

This was very thin on the ground for 40k and the bit they did show had already been shown.

I really wish they’d do us a favour and totally separate the various games for previews like this. One preview for AoS, one for 40k and one for specialist games. It would either force them to put more in to each one or to not bother with one particular game and save everyone’s time.

On a positive note, the new Titan is very exciting! Hopefully we will see it soon :)
