Hey everyone.

So, I have decided I want to start a Tyranid army. I am a long time marine player, but recently my tyranid pal convinced me of playing tyranids as a second army; after I fell in love with Hive Fleet Jormungandr.

I am thinking of starting something small, at a 1000 points scale, non competitive. Just for the joy of the theme behind the army itself. It still needs to be able to DO things on the board, though, so, I wanted to share the list I have in mind to begin with.

Could you guys give me pointers on what works and what doesn't here?

Battalion Detachment

-1 CP for Progeny of the Hive, for a second adaptation

+ HQ +
Neurothrope with Catalyst

Tyranid Prime (Warlord) with Adrenal Glands, Deathspitter, Rending Claws

+ Troops +
15 Hormagaunts with Adrenal Glands
15 Hormagaunts with Adrenal Glands

3 Ripper Swarms

3 Ripper Swarms

3 Tyranid Warriors with Adrenal Glands, Deathspitters, and Rending Claws

+ Fast Attack +
9 Raveners with Enhanced Resistance, Deathspitters and Scything Talons

+ Heavy Support +
Trygon Prime with the Arachnacyte Gland, and a Prehensile Pincer Tail, as well as Murderous Size to improve the strength on its claws

I wanted to create a list that was as little humanoid in look for the models as possible, with an emphasis on slithering creatures, claws, and tunneling.

My idea here would be to use the Trygon Prime and the Raveners as burrowed units, with the Trygon prime leading a squad of hormagaunts each to serve as screeners and tarpits once the units pop up. Meanwhile, the rippers cap an objective, as the other hormagaunts screen the warriors and the HQ units, on their advance.

Decorated "Monster Slayer", according to this tiny plastic medal I was honored with by my four year old daughter this one time.

For outstanding performance in the fulfillment of duty, in crushing an entire Canoptyk Host of Necrons with my Thunder Hammer.

I'm fairly new to 'nids but my suggestions would be:

  • swap one unit of Hormagaunts for termagants
  • consider some tyranid warrior instead of raveners and
  • maybe look at zonethropes.
