Dos, for fun and laughter, maybe go with a touchy-feely Astartes just to turn the tropes on their heads. :D

I'm not sure I could accurately portray such an aberration in text form (or any form for that matter!).

What about inaccurately?  You know, like a near-miss? :)

I am starting to get an insight into Steel's mind....it's...not...good. ;)

I don’t have easy access thanks to Electric Charged Durkari Kittens. I am still trying to replace all the wires they chewed. So the places where I have it stored are not accessible. And I can’t redownload because I do a lot of my typing at work....

It took me way too long to understand ‘Electric Charged Durkari Kittens’ and what was going on. Hope nothing has been permanently lost.

Also maybe worth hiring one of these fellows to keep them under control, I am sure you can find one with a reasonable rate of say a soul per month.

MR: How's this?

Oridyn Loth

gallery_45765_5904_22250.jpg
Oridyn Loth, circa 997.M41 (artwork by Harry Osborn)

Chapter of Origin: Exorcists

Role upon Induction: +[UNKNOWN]+

Deathwatch Specialism: Apothecary

Character Sheet: +[UNKNOWN]+

Appearance:

Loth is of average Astartes height (2.3m) with short dark hair and dark piercing eyes. His olive skin is pale, almost sallow from the countless hours spent with a helmet sealed on or deep in the Chapter librarium studying esoteric lore. His voice would be described as orotund if not for a sandpaper-like roughness due to damage to his vocal chords sustained three years into the Zendel Purges at Rezyk-Dov Pass.

A lattice of scars, tattooed script, and carefully-inked designs mark Loth’s skin, as well as a number of bionic replacements, are a testament to both his loyal service to his Chapter and the Emperor, and the inherently dangerous nature of his craft.

His left arm, from the elbow down, is a bionic replacement: the original was lost to a rusty cleaver wielded by a dark-skinned Ork in the same fight that saw significant damage dealt to his throat and chest.

Personality:

Oridyn Loth, unlike many of his brethren, is jovial in speech and manner. This friendly demeanour hides a sharp analytical mind and fanatical devotion to waging war in the Emperor’s name. For Loth, the end justifies the means, no matter what the Imperium must sacrifice to safeguard its own future.

Similarly, his ascension from savage child living on the blasted plains of Banish to a biologically- and chemically-engineered instrument of war, and the extreme rituals all Chapter aspirants must complete before being made a fully-fledged battle-brother of the Exorcists, has made it clear in Loth’s mind that Astartes are a creation superior in every way to the other species that inhabit the galaxy, including the humans they were molded from and are sworn to protect. This view is somewhat tempered by fragments of memories relating to what happened to the aspirants who failed the aforementioned rituals.

A noteworthy quirk is that of seldom removing his helmet, something that Oridyn Loth has never explained to anyone outside of the Chapter due to the secrecy surrounding the occult Exorcist rites. The portrait attached to this datafile is remarkably in that it is the only portrait ever made of this individual.

Selected History:

  • 975.M41 - accepted into the Chapter as a Neophyte at age 13 (Terran standard), inducted into the 11th Company

  • 982.M41 - promoted to 9th Devastator, 9th Company

  • 984.M41 - participated in the Battle for Rezyk-Dov Pass, earned citation for gallantry despite extensive personal injury and in the face of extreme odds

  • 986.M41 - promoted to 2nd Assault, 8th Company

  • 987.M41 - participated in the Wuroq Rift Campaign, culminated in the banishing of the Greater Daemon T'fa Lophyrt

  • 991.M41 - promoted to 1st Tactical, 4th Company

  • 995.M41 - swore the Hyppocratian Oath, promoted to the Apothecarion, and seconded to the 4th Company

  • 998.M41 - selected for service in the Deathwatch, sent to Watch Fortress Erioch to accomplish tour of duty

Can I already start building my character sheet or do you have anything particular in store for us? Can we freely spend our starting 1000 XP?

Also, I'm considering making Oridyn Loth an Apothecary: do you have an issues with this if I were to persue this path?

It means two apothecaries in the team, but that's not a problem.

No, nothing in store, just making sure everyone gets up to speed roughly at the same time - but you've got the kit and know what you're about, so go ahead.

I'll email you a link to the googledoc.  Think I have your address.

Trokair, I've had a good read of your IA: Voidborn and see they have no Primogenitor - or to be exact they're not known.

Have you any thoughts how to fill this out a bit?  Do they possess all 19 implants for example?  We just need a geneseed for them, for the purposes of some bonuses Brynjarr is entitled to.

Essentially it's game mechanics, so I could just roll for it if you liked, or would you have a preference?

I am inclined to lean towards Salamander, as several of their traits fit quite well, however my previous DIY chapter was also a Salamander so I did not want to straight up repeat myself. Also as pre Primaris there were no official Successors I thought it better to leave it as unknown. I do see them as having a stable and complete gene seed.

They do not have the archetypical obsidian skin and red eyes though. So either their Melanochrome is not as active or from a different source, or the genetic and environmental nature amongst the human population that serve as the chapters major recruiting source makes this work out differently. There is a grey tinge ranging from light to dark* amongst said population (and Brynjarr has it as well), so maybe that preexisting variation from human standard overrides the Black skin and glowing eye effect. Thinking on the fly here.

So I guess Salamanders would be my preference for rules purposes unless that really does not fit.

*Below are some pictures of some of my models where I have used a similar grey skin ideas. It started with the original Ogre Kingdom light grayish colour and darkened from there as I failed to replicate that colour but ended up with a range of darker shades that I liked, some more grey then others.

When we come to filling in the character sheets, I spotted an excellent post by ashlander47 in the Blackthorn Recruiting thread which is a superb appraisal and demonstration of how the boxes should be complete.

I have removed a few lines that aren't pertinent to our game, but the run-through is very useful all the same.

Top banana - and a nicely filled in sheet too Dos.

I forget all the stuff you boys get sometimes.  Any thoughts on a chapter demeanour?  Knowing the Exorcists, this will be something to do with their training rites or general disposition towards certain foes?

Haven't given it too much thought, to be honest. I'll need to take a look at what the other Chapter demeanours are and what effects they have.

Oh, and what about divinations? Do you pick those for us or do we pick 'em? If it's the latter, do you have a list handy where we can pick them from? There's no such list in the Deathwatch books: as far as I know, this is something Mol added to the game. :)
