building size?

Recommended Posts

I just cam across an old 40k building that was unfinished but looked decent.

The thing is it's 10x10x4" and intact.

I was thinking od making it look kinda industrial, maybe adding an old PC cooling fan to the top, some piping, a few other details and calling it an industrial building, maybe a generatorium or a processing plant. Of course I'll add a door or two, closed.

Catwalks and stairs would be nice but too expensive for this and fragile, maybe some sprue ladders possibly.

Is it too big to use intact as a terrain piece or what? Should i jaggedly cut it in two and make two partially collapsed building out of it? Do you use buildings this size without blast holes normally? Sould I jusut ass some big blasted out holes in a couple sides? Maybe collapse one end wall and put some holes in the others? I kinda like using it as a single building with like a coolerfan or two on top. I don[;pt try to make my buildins look like they're really buildings but i do try to give them some painting and a little detail.

If the lid is removable, put it on a base and detail the interior. I use a lot of nylon mesh for grating on floors with plasticard frames. If your walls are 3 layers thick, leave gaps in the middle layer you can accommodate removable doors. Doors that pull out from above are easy enough. I have a project coming up and I may try a set of sliding doors.

Well it is 4" high so it's below the magic 5" level.

If you add piping/roofing elements it will hit that 5" mark easily.

Looks like a cool shape for a building - you could fluff it as some kind of aircraft hangar, in which case you might want to carve out some big doors (or simply stick popsicle/lollipop sticks to look like the "slats" of sliding garage doors).

As focslain says, with a few bits and bobs on the top level (the fan you mention, some pipes/guitar string, hand rails, a trap-door...) you can reach the 5", and/or you can build up some "hills" underneath it which are themed to the rest of your terrain (which could be rubble for the industrial/urban theme, or grass or sand, etc.)

In your position, if the material isn't too tough (it looks like polystyrene, is that right?), I'd dig in a few holes in the walls, for bullet holes and shell blasts.
