Introduction

For those who aren't aware, my main army is Blood Angels in 40k and I have a Blog. This is pretty much where I spend my hobby time but as my collection has grown, I have been known to spread out a bit...

I started 40k in second edition and it wasn't long before I acquired a Delaque Gang and delved into the Underhive (especially following the change of 40k to third edition). I got the most out of the game with 2003's Necromunda Underhive book back when it was moved to the now defunct Specialist Games range. I even made a start at painting them but for whatever reason they never moved beyond basic battle ready. Since then I've acquired a second Delaque Gang and I've even managed a game of the new edition, but there's still a long way to go to become involved and besides, I need these out of my backlog.

I should point out that this blog will be on a slow burn; I'm not the fastest painter at the best of times and the stuff to be added here is done on an as-and-when basis as my primary focus remains my never ending pile of BA shame. However, I will be posting battle reports here when they eventually happen.

Anyway, without further ado, please enjoy the blog and I look forward to your comments :smile.:

Collection Shot

What better way to motivate than a B&C event? The 12 Month Challenge over in The Forge is one such event that does that. Basically you only need to pledge a minimum of one model a month to complete to whatever you feel it done. However, there is a another type of vow where you pledge a large project to work on all year. In a moment of madness, I thought 27 Delaque and 1 Ratskin Renegade was a good idea. From scratch. In addition to a monthly pledge from elsewhere...

Plodding Along Vow

I, Jolemai , embark on the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge, and for the entirety of 2021 pledge to complete 28 Necromunda models by year's end.

To do:
  • Strip
  • Base
  • Assemble
  • Paint to completion
I'm looking at averaging around three models a month on top of my regular monthly entries. More in depth progress will be recorded in a blog in the Other Games forum (TBC).

I'm going to regret this...

So that's looking like three models a month. To be stripped, fixed, based, and re-done. Looks like I might have my work cut out for me...

Scheme

There was a mission in Necromunda Underhive which typified the game for me. Your gang was searching around a collapsed part of the hive for <whatever> and this stuck with me. In the depths of the underhive it's a dark, murky, rubbish and rubble strewn mess that was once a proud Imperial hive city. To me, Imperial structures are grey, so House Delaque being the sneaky, spy type, would likely be in a grey of sorts. So I'm thinking various grey fatigues (maybe some bone thrown in) and the grey camo on their trench coats. This is the style I'm looking at replicating on their trenchcoats:

Grey, grey, black. That sort of thing.

As for the skin, I'm thinking of doing them similar to how I do my Servitors, but I may go even lighter.

Bases

Bases would be like my other Imperial bases, but with more rubble/rubbish and less organic matter - and on 28mm bases. As an idea:

Tanglewire:

Basic rocky look. There will be some rocks, but this will be a basis.

Dragon's Teeth & Barricades

Grey structures, with the occasional bit of colour to offset it. Less greens, more browns and rust. Definitely no green rims (will be grey).

Impressive work.

Good luck with the necromunda project! Stalled on similiar project myself (always the painting...)

That knight base looks interesting, how does that hold up? The debris really really natural

Some resin blocks can be the correct size for scenery and I do plan on making use of some more of them eventually.

Plan looks like it's a good 'un, Jol. Looking forward to seeing the first few Delaque. :tu:

Me too. I've got the first two month's worth of models gtg kinda, but there's a fair bit of prep work still to do - like stripping the rest, bulk basing, bulk spray undercoating...

Bases

Trash. Lots of trash. As I've had this in mind for ages and like any good hobbyist you never throw anything out...

Trash

Here's how the first six are looking. I'll probably add a couple of bits more (they say less is more but as my Delaque are wading/sifting through a collapsed part of the Underhive...) and seal them with pva before spraying them with Halford's Grey.

The rest require stripping first, so I'll be focusing on these six for now.

Scheme Musings

Doing a spot of work on these. Plan so far:

  • Colours: Halford's Grey undercoat. Eshen Grey, Celestia Grey, Ushabti Bone, Abaddon Black. (Maybe some Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, Shadow Grey if I have time to recover them)
  • Greatcoat camo has a Halford's base, with the patterns from Eshen, Celestia, and splodges of black.
  • Boots: Black
  • Trousers: Halford's/Eshen
  • Cuffs: Celestia
  • Vest (if any): Ushabti/Celestia

WIPs in a few days

It's a trip down memory lane.

What's up next Jolemai? I'm waiting to see that boltgun and stubgun Leader mini.

Thanks :)

A couple of Gangers and a Heavy that I teased earlier should be done by the end of the month... assuming I get through the mountain of BA that "seemed like a good idea at the time"...

Good job on the new models. The shaved heads and goggles, though... Is this kill team named "Necromongers"? Are any of its members named "Riddick"?

Cheers :tu:

I honestly never connected to two tbh. That or the rebels in the Terminator universe. Also been told they look like a type of Street Samurai from Shadowrun, again, just pure coincidence.
