We have a new unit of the week! This week it's the massive Tyrannofex, one of the newer, but Iconic Tyranid Heavy Support choices, and one of the better shooting options in the army. What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a unit of them?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)?
  • What size unit? Will you be running multiple units?
  • What Hive Fleet Traits, Adaptations and Stratagems do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices?
  • Are you buffing this unit? If so, how?

Over to you.

I just built one and am firmly set on the Acid Spray. At the moment it's great - if you get charged, you can overwatch for autohits, then attack back twice with it in your shooting phase, and it auto hits so doesnt care about degrading. The short range of the Acid spray doesnt matter so much with the smaller engagement ranges in 9th ed.

Rupture cannon TFexes have a place in Kronos detachments for rerolls, otherwise I'd try andtake my favourite regenerate wounds Hive Fleet adaptation.

My question mark on the Tyrannofex regardless of weapon selection is "why not an Exocrine?"

The Tyrannofex is better if you run into the right target for the gun you brought, but the Exocrine has better BS and easily the best all-rounder weapon between the two beasts.

I find myself agreeing that the Acid Spray is the way to go, if only because the Overwatch threat that presents is the one thing where the Tyrannofex really outshines the Exocrine.

I field both in my Kronos list. As TheNewman says the Exocrine is superior especially with the Stratagem that allows it to behave as if it hadn’t moved when it has! I’d probably invest in a second Exocrine but I just love my Tyrannofex model.

I arm her with a Rupture Cannon and while the results can swing from ultimate shooting to a total flop I find that there are good uses for both.

I’ve found the Tyrannofex performs better on vehicles with T8 and the Exocrine has a more reliable ability to bring down pretty much every other hard target especially Primaris.

I’m yet to try out the Acid Spray but on paper they look like they could add a lot to an aggressive list.
