The Raptor 40k Fan Animation

Just came across this on a Facebook post, but in my excitement to view it I closed the app on my phone and now for the life of me can't find the original post. It's absolutely awesome though, nice little homage to the classic Starcraft cinematic. Hitting Astartes levels of quality here.

Can't quite figure out how to embed the video but the link is below.

Well worth a watch!

Excellent. The marine was a bit too lithe, too baseline human in proportions IMO, but generally very proficient animation and great execution.

Great mirror to the old Lord Inquisitor GK arming sequence vid!

Yeah that stood out for me. I like my marines to have monstrous proportions and tiny heads, mostly because I enjoy theme of Marines subverting typical power fantasy tropes.

No other complains than that though. It was really quite awesome. Some of the animation was a bit jittery, but that seemed more of a rendering issue than an animation error given the detail of the models and environments involved.

Modeling and texturing/surfacing excellent.

Scene assembly and world building/design excellent.

Marine interpretation is subjective. Could be bigger, he also works as is.

Rendering, camera work, staging, and vfx excellent.

Audio design is good.

UI elements (screens and holograms) are good.

The only critique I could offer is animation. The motion and weight are off.

If I'm interpreting right, it's raw motion capture without a smoothing pass, or hand keyed. If it's hand keyed and animation is not this artist's wheel house, that explains the jumps in timing and non smooth motions.

Again I'm blown away by the community projects we've seen.

Also Primaris Represent!

I commend the creators skills, but I perfer this over clean, automated robotic assembly.

Pretty much spot on what I was picturing. I haven't seen that image in years. I guess animating a dozen serfs, orderlies and tech priests would make the scene way too complicated and time-consuming to make.

Strictly as a sci-fi arming sequence it's cool.

As a 40k thing though...it's basically a copy paste of Starcraft II's armoring of Tychus in the teaser. Synth suit looked like something out of crysis. Call me hard to please....I just don't care for this one. It's not 40k.

As a straight up bit of Sci Fi sequence in 40k it looks great, like a lot of the stuff that's in game intros or the awesome fan stuff that's been produced!  I'm always happy to see this sorta stuff.

But I did notice that, quite opposite to a lot of comments suggesting the marine could be bigger, I felt his muscles were too big around the lats/triceps area before donning the armour, which is then not represented when wearing the armour and instead shows a large gap.  What's worse is the clip shows the before and after at 43seconds.  Sadly in checking that again I spotted at seconds 49 and 51 the gap between arm and torso showing the lit up background - slight modelling faus pax :)
