Ok guys, I’m trying to plan a list to build to. The theme is an Artillery Company of the 3rd Siege Regiment.

This list is all the models I currently have (though I don’t have all the Infantry Squads) I already own the rest but need to paint them.

I’d like it to be fun and make for some interesting games. I think I have a bit of everything.

The only models I’m wedded to are the Earthshaker Carriages, Medusa Carriages and the Mecharius Vanquisher.

My only caveat is that I want the whole force to be Death Korps of Krieg.

So please can anyone in the know give me some tips?

Looks pretty solid, perhaps a bit light on infantry for such a force.

I would potentially just take one full engineer squad so that you drill can deliver the maximum possible number of them. Similarly, having used Death Riders quite a bit, I would potentially go with one full unit as opposed to two small ones. They don't do much damage, but are very hard to shift, bringing the unit up to full will make that more of a headache. Alternatively you could go with one Rider Vet squad and one regular squad of 6 with the models. The Vets have more damage output and are small enough to be able to outflank in small gaps.

The Command Squad is probably the one thing that's least useful. Morale is not a huge deal for DK and the 6" bubble won't actually reach a lot of your units as you'll need to spread them out for screening and objectives.

You could consider putting the special weapons in there and reserving them.

Thanks sairence, I think you’re right, I need more Infantry.

I’ll drop the command squad and the extra Engineers for another squad.

Moving forward I think I might drop the Heavy Mortars in favour of more Infantry.

I’ll leave them in for now as I want to get this army on the table!

I think this will be the list I build to as I have most of the models for it.

I have included a Spearhead detachment. I did this as I wanted to include all my artillery as single units so I can deploy them individually rather than in batteries. Plus I reasoned that another Marshal would be handy for orders.

Do I need to do this? Or can I deploy them as single models?

As you can see I’ve dropped the Heavy Mortars and the Macharius Vanquisher. I felt that the pts spent on those 2 units would be better spent on more boots on the ground plus some more Deathriders.

I included 2 Platoon Commanders plus the Command Squads to go alongside them. I figured I’d need more orders given the larger number of troops.


All in all I think I’ve covered all the bases with my favourite models plus a more efficient build.

So what do you guys think?

I really like your last list, but I'm sad to see the Macharius go, its a cool ass model. Having a Baneblade, I get its just too expensive to use most the time though. Same with the heavy mortars, they just seem too expensive for what they do. Ive been looking at a similar list, but I don't wanna commit to making rough riders until i know they're sticking around. Keeping all the carriages in separate choices will help with deployment too I think.

 

The one weakness i see is some long range anti-tank. The Basilisk is good at it, but will prob be better spent killing infantry. The Vanquisher would nicely fit this slot. Maybe if you upgrade to a 3k list add that back in! I also don't see any psykers, so maybe swap a command squad for an astropath or a primaris? The deny can be pretty useful in the few games Ive ran up against psykers.

It does seem a shame to drop the Heavy Mortars and Macharius Vanquisher but I feel the added troops will be more useful.

I’m hoping the Medusa Carriages will help with the antitank ranged firepower.

It’ll take me a long time to build this list but I thought it best to have a plan!
