Ultramarines from Blood Angels and Dark Angels boxes?

Hello,

I am building my first army and I'll start with the Ultramarines (I know, nobody does this... :joking:).

So far I have the Command Starter box, Indomitus box and new Bladeguards box.

After reading some post and list of armies, I decided to get some vehicles and a librarian based on GW article and another blog:

Primaris Repulsor Executioner

Primaris Impulsor

Primaris Invictor Tactical Suit

Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought

Primaris Librarian

The problem is that some units above are out of stock or cost almost the price of a box. Therefore, I did some research and I find out that I can have all the units buying boxes full of other units. Price-wise it makes sense, but now comes my first question: does it make sense for the Game to have so many others repeated units, are they useful?

Here is what I found:

If I buy the Combat Patrol Blood Angel box, I get:

- 1x Primaris Librarian
- 1x Impulsor
- 5x Primaris Intercessors
- 5x Primaris Incursors
- 3x Primaris Aggressors

If I buy the Combat Patrol Dark Angels box, I get:

– 1x Primaris Chaplain
– 3x Inceptors
– 1x Redemptor Dreadnought
– 5x Primaris Intercessors

Then I get the separated units:

Primaris Invictor Tactical Suit

Primaris Repulsor Executioner

It didn't make sense, financially, to get the Interdiction Box.

With this "buying list" I get all the units I want and I get even more units to build my army such as Aggressors, more Intercessors etc... and everything is in stock... so far.

My final questions:

1 - If I get the Blood Angel and Dark Angel boxes, can I just paint them like Ultramarines and it will be acceptable? Or I need to do some customization in order to remove some marks related to the first two chapters?

2 - Are "hybrid" armies accepted in games? For example, I create a hybrid Ultra-Dark-Blood-Angels chapter (hybrid color scheme) and before each game I decided which Codex to use and I stick to it? Or this is HERESY and the Mighty Emperor of Mankind will send his army to illuminate me?

Since I never played a game, it is hard to know exactly what I need. So far, I only played with the credit card and I won some miles. My idea is to build a standard/basic army and then grow it with time.

Below you will find my full list of Space Marines IF AND ONLY IF I get everything above:

– 2x Primaris Chaplain

- 2x Primaris Captain

- 1x Primaris Librarian

- 1x Primaris Lieutenant

- 1x Judiciar

– 3x Inceptors

- 5x Primaris Incursors

- 3x Primaris Eradicators

- 3x Primaris Aggressors

– 10x Primaris Intercessors

- 1x Bladeguard Ancient

- 6x Bladeguard Veterans

- 6x Outriders

- 30x Assault Intercessors

- 1x Impulsor

– 1x Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought

- 1x Primaris Invictor Tactical Suit

- 1x Primaris Repulsor Executioner

Total 78 units

Sorry for the long post... I know... I will have them battle ready around 2025...

There are no formal rules regarding painting, shcemes and chapters.

As long as it is perfectly clear what rules the different units/detatchements are using, it should be all good.

Avoid situations like: they are all painted identical blue, but these guys with the backs turned towards your deployment zone, are chapter X, while the rest of the blue guys are chapter Y.

If you play an army with detachments with different fraction keywords, or you have a detachment with mixed fraction keywords, it should be obvious and easy for your opponent to tell them apart.

All chapter-specific components in these boxes are on separate sprues (one chapter upgrade sprue per box). All models in the sets are the standard sprues.

The kits aren't chapter specific so your good there.

As far as the "hybrid" scheme example, plenty of people create their own chapters and use different rule sets for them either for a needed change, or aren't happy with their fractions power level. What bothers people is the example Are Verlo brought up where you have two detachments each using a different chapter, but have an identical scheme.

That said when your first learning the game its probably better to pick one founding chapter, and try it for while. Its takes awhile figure out each one out because of the warlord traits, stratagems, etc. so take your time.

Thank you all for the infos. Now I can plan my next buy!

Yes, I'll stick with the Ultramarines and one color scheme for now.

I can't wait for the restrictions (covid) to be over to start playing. So much to learn...

Definitely best to stick to one faction if you are just starting out. Many of us fall to the lure of 'shiny new stuff' and end up with random units from factions that briefly captured interest but never held it...!

I want to hear more about this UltraDarkBlood Chapter

That name is so edgy, I would probably cut my tongue saying it out loud.:teehee:

Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series.

Do the DA and BA combat patrols also come with a transfer sheet for their respective chapters? I know chapter specific Intercessor/Hellblaster/Aggressor boxes that came out in 8th edition had the upgrade sprues and the transfer sheets. You could sell the transfer sheet along with the upgrade sprue for a decent amount since a lot of BA and DA players are always looking for more.

Edit: Checked the site and it doesn't look like the box comes with any transfers... boo to GW for that.

I just checked the descriptions on my local store and they mention the DA comes with:

– 2x Dark Angels Primaris upgrade sprues

– 1x Dark Angels transfer sheet

However, the BA doesn't have the transfers sheet, but comes with 2 Blood Angels Primaris Upgrade Frames.

Next month I will know for sure. I will get the BA Combat Patrol first. :)
