The 40k Conversion Potential of Warhmmer Quest: Cursed City

So, I'm sure most of you have seen today's Warhammer Online preview. Lots of cool stuff for those of us who play AoS (and also that cheeky Bel'akor tease ) but that's not what we're here for, what we're here for is all things 30th to 42nd Millennia.

Here's what immediately jumped out at me, Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is an utter TREASURE TROVE of conversion potential with the players and baddies. This is the breakdown of what I noticed.

The two originally revealed ones:

Jelsen Darrock (the Vampire Hunter) is begging to be turned into an Ordo Hereticus Witch Hunter.

Head and weapon swap = Dark Eldar Haemonculus

And now the new ones:

Rogue Trader/Imperial Guard Lord General, and this guy literally is perfect for that almost as-is  (also is it just me or does he seriously look like they redid Janus Draik for AoS here?)

Squat Merc for all us Necromunda players:

This lady.... There's at least three options with her, imo. Slap a Storm Shield on her back, Crusader. Or you could put a backpack on her and make her a Sister of Battle or Sister of Silence with a head swap:

Swap the banner head and remove the stakes, possibly remove the headdress and whatever that is on her back, instant Navigator/Psyker:

Put some 40k bits and bobs on the Death Wizard and you've got a Psyker or a Scrivener for Inq28:

Can't get the image, but that big Werewolf/Vampire looking thing (you know the one, probably a new Varghulf model?) is BEGGING to become a Clawed Fiend for Dark Eldar.

Anyone else notice something I missed?

I'm with you- I made a thread about conversion potential after seeing only the Witch Hunter and the Grave Digger; I was coming back here to necropost and bring the thread back with new stuff, but you totally beat me to it (and did it better than I would have with pics and nice spoiler tags!)

I think the tombstone zombies could also pass as poxwalkers.

I've already got my Sister Famulous figured out (and my Navigator and Astropath for that matter), but if hadn't, some of these would totally work. The woman with the stakes is totally a Hereticus acolyte. I'd field her as a single model rather than part of a squad- since I play Crusade, this allows me to give her WL traits, relics and battle honours to help her actually be worth fielding- it's how I'd use the Witch Hunter model too; Including Greyfax and Karamazov, I already have 4 Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors, which currently is the greatest number of Inquisitors that can be fielded in a single army- an only if said army is Onslaught size.

I really miss Blackstone Fortress, and I am still hoping they will announce a 40k Warhammer Quest game late next year.

I'm really tempted to buy this because the models are beautiful and many would find their way onto my 40k table. But I also know it's a gateway drug to AoS, and I can't afford another GW game. I already think Karadons are perfect counts-as squats, and if I had this box, I KNOW absolutely that having that one squat would make me buy a squad... and I'd try to kitbash a pilot and a Living Ancestor onto an attack bike. If I succeeded, I'd build a unit of bikers to go with it....

And then I'd want to get the most out of the models I had, so I'd need an AOS army to fight against. And I have pet rats... So Skaven?

And then Ogors that would represent savage, pre-contact Ogryns; the Guard would land right in the middle of their civil war and manipulate one faction into Imperial service by winning that war.

And then I'd be poor for the rest of my life LoL!

Lots of cool models though.

I'm really excited by this box.

I think I'll pick up a copy of the game and then most of the heroes for conversion fodder for 30K.

And hopefully a bunch of expansions with more glorious stuff.

Fully agree as well. I joked on Valrak's stream that you could even turn the Death Wizard into a 30k incarnation of Malcador hahahah

But yes, that first miniature is practically begging to be turned into an Inquisitor, so much potential with him.

The swarms of bats and rats would make great bases for chaos/nurgle

The objectives too, or theyd just make great 40k objectives

The graveguard? with tombstones on their backs would make good poxwalkers too

The females with swords hanging off pillars could make assassins or maybe daemonettes or drukhari

My favourite part of all this isn't actually 1 single part of this Cursed City boxed set, it's an underlying theme:

Warhammer 40,000 was originally conceptualised not as sci-fi, but Science Fantasy.  What you all are suggesting returns to the heart of that.

That's NOT to say other interpretations of 40k are wrong.  If anything, I think Warhammer 40,000 has grown to beyond that limited trope.  But in the same way that Forgeworld sometimes gets nostalgic with a reference back to 1st ed 40k: Rogue Trader, I really like how what you guys are bringing 40k back to its original roots.

Put some 40k bits and bobs on

^ I feel like you've distilled the purist essence of Science Fantasy right there in particular.

My first thoughts were Inquisitors and Rogue Trader conversion fodder.

I was looking at Captain Braskov for conversion ideas and to be perfectly honest you could probably just slap a pistol holster on her hip and call it a day. I think the Inq 28 crowd will have a field day with this set.

Like I said. Add some eyes, instant Dark Eldar Clawed Fiend

Gederas, I think it could be used as a proxy for the lore Man Bat winged things the templars were crusading against, that up and dissappeared by the time the crusade fleet got to the home world
