With the Company of the Grey

A little work from tonight. Harkening back to an older time...perhaps a Ragnar from somewhere beyond the warp.

For some reason the washes didn't hold on the cheeks.

I was trying to go for a dyed black with blonde roots thing but couldn't get it to look how i wanted so i went for the classic blonde version. I would however be up for suggestions on how to do this using a brush.

I'm not sure what to use yet for the...thing supporting his top-knot.

The heads not glued in yet so i can finish painting it. It is however seated to make getting pictures easier.

I shall return with further updates in the future.

Ok, couldn't let the cheeks issue stand before i call it a night.

I gave the bright spots another layer of army painters Strong Tone.

Then i did my best to give the scars a touch of AP Red Tone and used the last of my prepped Strong Tone to bring down the brightness of the blonde hair a bit.

And one last update for tonight.

I glued on the pelt after giving the underside a layer of ap Leather then a layer of ap Red Tone wash before hitting the chain across his back with shining silver (not visible).

I really like the scarring on the face and the graphical sketch style of the painting. I would try to make the eye less defined and white if you aren't planning on painting in the iris and pupil - perhaps a little dot of Cassendora Yellow in the center and some Seraphim Sepia out from that to the edges of eyes, or just a thinned sepia in the eye? I like how you've painted up the define segments of armor.

Thank you Bryan,

The graphical sketch thing is kind of a happy accident that I've just kept going with. It almost feels like the model is ripped out of the old 2nd or 3rd edition b&w art.

For the eye: thank you for that tip as I'm terrible with eyes. I make an awful mess when the detail gets fine (that mouth caused a great deal of aggravating touch-ups). So I'll try and figure that out, most likely going with the sepia idea for simplicity sake.

Ok... I've gotta ask, are we building/painting Incursor and Infiltrator packs as part of our Wolf Scouts designation?

The supplement shows incursors with blood claw markings. I'm not sure if it mentions infiltrators but I know Eliminators have the scout markings. I remember that it mentions different chapters and great companies handling squad markings differently (I think Logan was more concerned about wolves not following the codex than everyone being on the same page).

Well, that's handy, thank you Jorin.

I guess in my great company fluff I'll be using them in a similar fashion to Wolf Scouts and shall paint the makings accordingly. This means black and grey as seen on Hræreks right knee and shoulder.

The Infiltrator looks really good, Wulf Vengis, good show!

I think the Wolf Scout marking is appropriate on the Infiltrators, or possibly even the Hunter markings, either one seems like it would fit well. The Incursors do seem more like a Claw style pack to me, getting in close, more reliance on gadgets, etc. - older Wolves would have more confidence in their own senses and prowess than to use the Omniscopes (or whatever they are called).

The face looks really good, and I don't think most people will even notice the eyes - honestly I think they are super-hard to do realistically at 40K scale - my personal attempts haven't really been that satisfying.

Looking forward to seeing some more!

I looked through the supplement more and infiltrators are under the wolf scout packs section of the gallery pages.

That said it definitely mentions that squads, companies, and chapters have their own way of fitting the new stuff into the traditional pack structure (pg. 21). So I'd just assign them whatever markings feel appropriate (I plan on painting my aggressors with hunter markings instead of fang markings for example).

So i thought i was finished with this guy but now that I've got a good look at the pics i realize i missed the fang hanging on the left pauldron. D'oh!

Well The parts list should be obvious but here it is anyways:

Head from space wolves tda box and left pauldron from a space wolves pack box.

Painting time: 3.5 hours 830pm-12am

Bits list: space wolves pack left pauldron and an unknown head from the bits box. (I may change the head, not sure yet how i feel about it.)

EDIT: There's also the guns of a Chapterhouse Razorback that I've had primed for...years now. (I ordered them after the lawsuit probably in the final products liquidation phase (Idk) .) I put the AP Ash Grey on their housings and armor shielding (not pictured).

EDIT 2: They're kind of visible in the last photo, all blurry way in the background. They'll get pics too don't worry.

++ Personal Notes of Inquisitor Malak ++

++ Begin Transcription ++

The Wolf Scouts of The Grey

When a member of the Grey has exhibited hunting skills, above and beyond his brethren, he may find himself lending those talents to one of the scout packs during a battle. They call this process "hunting with the black". During these operations the scouts will remove some of their markings and will only repaint them when their hunt is completed. For this reason, there is no dedicated number of scouts at any given time.

It would seem that the commander of the Grey often chooses to leave members of the scouts behind as a sort of vigil. To keep a watchful eye on the world's he has visited.

My agents have reported on several occasions during my investigation, that they believed they were being followed or watched. I myself have begun to notice the faintest signs of being stalked whilst planet-side. It is my belief that my agents are merely feeling intimidated by their mission and perhaps that mass paranoia is beginning to affect me. I have modified my personal bodyguard to accommodate this feeling of unease in any case.

Going to try and build/paint another infiltrator tonight once the pups are in bed. I make no promises as its Thursday and my terrible sleep habits combined with my occupation are beginning to catch up to me as per usual. However it's Thursday and that means Wandavision tomorrow so yay.

So far

The pack so far.

med_gallery_33718_6703_223718.jpg

I get the feeling Thengir is mad at Karsi.

"Where's the bloody landing craft?" Thengir spat.

"I don't know, it should be here, it should be right here." Karsi frantically checked his screens.

"Incoming lads, seems we're not alone." Hr Edited by Wulf Vengis
