Looking to potentially start Necromunda, what do I need?

Ok, so my housemate picked up the starter back in 2017, and also has the first three Gang War books along with miscellaneous WD articles. In termos of models, he has a built Escher gang and some rule-of-cool Goliath models, I have Genestealer Cults and Chaos Cults. Is that enough to throw some dice and work out if we like the game or not, and is there anything we should be aware of in terms of errata etc?

I used to play the old one, not the new one, but with all the expansions and books out there I'd just start from the first book; Unless the cults rules were re-published in a later book with changes, the stealer cults are available online:

Goonhammer post on their efficiency, from last year:

GW also published rules for Chaos cults in PDF form here.

And the most recent FAQ here.

As far as what you need, if your buddy has the original starter set and first 3 gang war books, this should cover most of it. You might find an odd weapon in one of the pdfs that was introduced later (leaving you without the rules for it), but other than that, you're good.

If you wanted to go a little further,

-The 4 Gang War books were replaced by the Hardback rulebook and Gangs of the Underhive book.

-Additional Rules for Cults (Chaos and Genestealer) can be found in the Book of Ruin, including rules for corrupted house gangs.

-Each of the 6 classic gangs ia getting their own dedicated books, with updated rules, point values, new fighters, a unique skill tree, and more fluff. They don't completely obselete Gangs of the Underhive at the moment (The trading post and... maybe the universal skills?* aren't included. I've read somewhere those will eventually become PDFs on WarCom, but they're not there now), but they're worth getting if you like the game.

*My local stores haven't been able to get the rulebook in stock

Ok, so.

Played our first game tonight, Escher v Helot Cult. Didn't use Skills or Tactics cards to cut down on things we needed to remember though.

Quite enjoyed it overall, it didn't feel as janky as Shadow War and it didn't bore me like Kill Team does, so might just have legs alongside 40K and Titanicus. Gonna try out actual scenery next, along with introducing the rest of the ruleset.

Once you get into the campaigns, I think the game really shines. It's meant to be narrative and the rules they've built really help that. Especially good to have an arbitrator who can basically act like a GM.

I would totally be the arbitrator... if I had any friends that played Necromunda.

There are some Discord groups playing campaigns via TTS on Steam.
