True Sons

Hello there.

Am thinking of starting a small force of True Sons but wanted to know if they are lore/canon?

I heard they were mentioned in the Black Legion supplement in older editions.

If there not lore friendly I’ll just stick to my Black Legion project instead. Plus I can always do Sons of Horus for 30k.

Below is what information I’ve found on them.

The True Sons are a large splinter warband of Chaos Space Marines that formerly belonged to the Black Legion and are dedicated to Chaos Undivided. Following the death of their Primarch Horus at the hand of the Emperor during the final battle of the Horus Heresy and the XVIth Legion's subsequent flight from Terra into the Eye of Terror, Horus' Legion continued to worship him as a god. They bowed down before his newly-raised tomb on the Daemon World of Maeleumwhere the XVIth Legion found its first refuge and made daily oaths of loyalty. The warband known as the True Sons never broke with these traditions, even after the destruction of the Primarch's body in the wake of the Traitor Legions' internecine Slave Wars. Covering their armour in the profane symbol known as the Eye of Horus, the True Sons build effigies of Horus wherever they go, bowing down to them before symbolically burning them.

Note that the below is based on what I've found in the 6th edition Codex Supplement: Black Legion, so it may have been superceded by some later reference that I don't have.

The True Sons were never part of the Black Legion, remaining loyal to Horus (and not to Abaddon). These loyalist Sons of Horus/Luna[r] Wolves are considered to be thrice-cursed traitors by the Black Legion.

Thanks for the reply.

I might just stick to my plan to build my Black Legion force instead. As I’d hate to paint them up as SOH/True Sons and find out they ain’t canon anymore.

Plus the BL have some SOH in it. So that will do

They’re still canon really, they’ve just not been mentioned recently that’s all. Go with your gut & do the project I say buddy!

There are thousands of splinter factions within the Eye from all of the original Legions that found refuge there.

Collecting a project that has a rich background like this is awesome!

As others have said, they still exist so far as we know; and even if they don't, it's hardly a stretch to imagine that there are other warbands of Sons of Horus who maintain their original colours, & you can still play them with the BL rules for the best of both worlds.

Thanks for the reply’s. I might just paint them up as True Sons. I’ve always loved the Sons of Horus.

I say go for it.

GW plant this stuff to capture the imagination of players for this very reason and if it's what you want to do then do it. Canon is a fickle thing in 40k and for the most part anything goes, some of the most fun I've had in the hobby is finding some obscure reference then fleshing it out.

If you are worried about GW superseding your army then just do them as a splinter faction of the True Sons. The Legions are a treacherous back stabbing bunch and like Marshal Loss says there are bound to be lots of little armies running around in their original Legion colours trying to make out they are still OG.

I definitely think I will do them thanks for the reply.
