Alright folks, got a spicy one for you today: if a Raven Guard player takes a mortificator, does his unit of dreadnought boyfriends get infiltrate and or outflank? I have my thoughts on this, but wanna get your takes on it first :smile.: Edited by Brofist

The M's rules specifically say that the robots don't get any benefit out of his legion rules, so I say nope.

So same applies to an Alpha Legion’s mutable tactics (could be infiltrate)?

Yes.

Just like any legion rules.

Edit: Having said that I must add that I know exactly how the other sides argues.

They acknowledge that the Dreadnoughts don't get infiltrate themselves but since a model with infiltrate is in their unit (the Mortifactor) it grants them infiltrate, because that's what happens in regular units if one or more models have that rule.

It is crystal clear that this is a violation of the Mortifactors rules which specifically forbit that, but we all now that some players don't care.

Yep, I'm basically here to parrot what Gorgoff wrote. From the morties rules:

The effects of the Mortificator's Legiones Astartes rule do not confer to the Dreadnoughts in this unit in anyway.

This disqualifies most special rules, I think, but could see it working for a few weird edge cases RAW. For example, lets talk infiltrate. Infiltrate can't confer to the unit, as it's an effect of the LA special rule. Infiltrate, however, grants outflank to the model with the rule. So the Mortificator has outflank, which isn't part of his LA rules, so it would confer to the unit.

RAW Infiltrate says that ICs with infiltrate cannot join units without at the start of the game. That implies mixed units where some models have it and some don't should be impossible, but who knows since RAW, he isn't an independent character anyway.

If he had scout (but not as a legion rule) then the unit would be able to scout /outflank in the same way a legion praevian with Vorax can (vorax have scout so therefore the whole unit has scout).

I'm not really sure Forgeworld put enough thought into how a unit with VEHICLES and infantry mixed together was supposed to work. I can't think of another example of this from any version of the rules. Even mixed units of monstrous creatures never used to be a thing.

Mixed monstrous creature units was one of the things they tried to removed by rolling 6th into 7th. Jokes on them, because forgeworld still had magos dominuses and then the praevian.

As gorgoff said, the language is uncompromising. "Any way" disqualifies any attempted workaround from being raven guard or alpha legion. The instructions to treat the unit as a vehicle squadron also disqualifies the mortifier from being targeted by master of ambush as well, though there might be a fringe case where he can still be granted infiltrate some how.

The only real tricky tricks with the mortificator and praevian is the iron hands 5+ 5+ 5+ 6+, and tanking melta bomb hits in combat.
