Grey Knights in Book of Rust

GW's starting to preview the Book of Rust.

"That’s not to say it’s all doom and gloom, though. Scores of Imperial Knights, Space Marines, and Adeptus Mechanicus legions are on hand to fight back, and they might even be receiving some unexpected aid of a distinctly grey and knightly variety."

Not sure what this means.

Nothing in the army rule section that looks like it pertains to GK though, maybe in the next book? If there is one?

Also what I've picked up from a first glance. We'll probably be in there thematically, but not as far as rules are concerned for now... the fact that the Book of Rust is Act 1 kind of implies there will be further acts, possibly like Vigilus had a couple of books and of course Psychic Awakening. I think the best we can hope for at the moment is a thematic appearance at the end of Act 1 and a (this is wishful thinking folks) rules supplement in Act 2. But I'm an eternal optimist. The truth is that we're probably still gonna rust away for a few more months.

Happy to see a new narrative expansion though!!

I'm betting that we arrive at the very end. The last chapter is called Invaders from the Empyrean. Welp, that sounds like a whole lot of our problem.

Right? Despite us having to deal with the Imperium's biggest threat, we get backseated in favor of our "oh-so-noble" regular Astartes "brothers". Sheesh.

I wish I can upvote the pair of you 1000x times.  However, as unlikely as that is, if the warzone has us in it, that could possibly, potentially mean that we see a glimpse (or half) of some of the rules we are going to be playing it with 9th. I'm almost tempted to buy the book, just to see whether we get any sort of an early preview.

  • 2 weeks later...

I purchased the Book of Rust, and I can’t find any mention of the Grey Knights. Seems like that was a nice bait and switch, and we have to hope they meant help in the next book. I have the real “feel bads” from buying the book hoping there would be even a mention of what may be coming.

Caveat Emptor.

There may or may not be other books accompanying this one. We could be in a sequel book?

Does it seem like this one sets up for a sequel?

I have only skimmed the book, and apparently there is a big daemonic incursion, so maybe? Just seems to be a bit deceptive to say “may be receiving help of a grey and knightly variety” and then nothing. Would have saved me from buying a useless book... nevermind, that was probably the plan

ETA: It really made it seem like there would be SOMETHING in this book the way it was mentioned. Otherwise, why mention it in the preview at all?

Yeah, here's the full quote:

"War Zone Charadon

As you may have seen in issue 460 of White Dwarf, the First Captain of the Death Guard has a bone to pick with the Charadon sector. Follow the story of Typhus’ invasion and discover how it sets the Imperial defenders reeling, as the whole sector descends into anarchy with warring factions everywhere you look.

It’s no surprise that the Orks are getting stuck in, but the Drukhari too? It’s definitely not a good time to be a loyal Imperial citizen in the Charadon sector.

That’s not to say it’s all doom and gloom, though. Scores of Imperial Knights, Space Marines, and Adeptus Mechanicus legions are on hand to fight back, and they might even be receiving some unexpected aid of a distinctly grey and knightly variety. If you want to find out just who will be coming to give Charadon’s defenders a hand, you’ll have to get the book and give it a good read."

The TOC is displayed on the same page, no mention of Space Marines or Grey Knights. So I guess they are talking about the War Zone more generally, and previewing what's coming in later books in the series.

The one guess I'd hazard - and this is a guess, not a rumor - is Codex: Grey Knights is up next. They released Book of Rust not long after Codex: Death Guard, hoping they see the value of releasing the Codex before the campaign book.

Since The Book of Rust is Act 1 there will no doubt be an Act 2 in the War Zone Charadon series, and since Typhus and his merry band of pestilence is involved there's bound to be a major daemonic incursion. Where there's a major daemonic incursion there's usually Grey Knights to be found. So, I think we can safely say we'll see our favorite daemon killers at some point. We got some descent supplemental in Psychic Awakening's Ritual of the Damned and I suspect that's what we'll get here.

This would be a nice spot to release a new codex with a shiny new upgrade to the model line, but I'm note holding my breath for that. I've heard no rumblings of a new line of models for us, so I suspect that if we do get a new codex soon, it'll just be a stop gap for 9th ed.

Sad as it is, I would be pleased with a stop gap that updated our wounds and weapons. Especially if our codex is still a long way out.

Sorry guys, but this discussion of models and rules, etc. beyond Book of Rust really is off topic.

Brother Woodsman, if you want to start a new topic, I'll add these last posts to it. Keep in mind that if you do start a new topic, these last posts will appear first when I move them. Therefore you might want to just start the topic, then let me add these posts. You can then edit your first post  accordingly.
