Anyone considering Dark Technomancer Liquifier Gun spam?

I was listening to you guys discuss this when I think it was on News & Rumours, but wondering if seasoned players would take up on it.

To recap, the recently released 9th ed Codex gave you a new & improved Liquifier Gun, for Wrack armies, it's like a Flamer with Armour Piercing -2.  You add on the Technomancer custom chapter tactic and it Wounds Marines on 3+, does 2 Damage...it practically renders Marines into Guardsmen.  You can have 2 Liquifier Guns per min-sized squad of 5 Wracks, have 2 squads per Raider transport, you're doing a drive-by with 4 of these MEQ-melting Liquifier Guns per floaty boat.  So sample list of 25 Power Level Patrol (because I was thinking of this in terms of the official Crusade campaign rules):

  • HQ: Haemonculus
  • Troops: 3 x 5 Wracks, each squad with 2 Liquifier Guns, 6 total
  • Dedicated Transports: 2 Raiders

It's things like this that are legitimately making me worry about playing Primaris.  I have nothing but respect for it, because as a Mechanicum player in 30k, we had somewhat similar MEQ-melting template weapons on our chunky boi Myrmidon cults and it put the fear of the Omnissiah into Legion players.  Now I feel I'm on the other side of the table, just curious if anyone is building towards this direction!

Thanks in advance.

Edit - fixed a typo.

Potentially scary but it needs to get close to work. 4 of those on a Raider will get on average 14 Marine killing hits per turn. When you consider the Disintegrator Ravager (a workhorse anti-MEQ unit) gets 9 shots and 6 hits at a similar profile, it is definitely a compelling case.

Now the Ravager has slightly better AP and a lot better range but those Wracks bring 2 ObjSec Troop units and you can stick a Dark Lance on their Raider to take pot-shots at things too. I definitely think your proposal has mileage.

I've had a couple games where I just built a Battalion of DT and maximized my Liquifier spam.  It's definitely a fun option, but it's definitely not the way to make a Marine player cry that it's unfair.  +1D and to Wound is nice but at least where I'm at it's 85% Plague or Gravis so I just benefit on wounding on 4's for the most part.

Honestly Wracks are not my go to with the spam though.  Grotesques are since they can take them 1 for 1 at the cost of losing anti infantry in melee since they keep their Flesh gauntlets.

I can't see the interaction surviving the first FAQ for the book as I don't think it was intended. Either it will not work on auto-hitting weapons (my hope) or it will do mortals on wound rolls of 1.

Being so short range won't matter as DE are easily the most/second most mobile army in the game, you pick all the engagements so turn 1 is the only turn you'll be out of range generally but in range with Dark Lances.

As I'm not a huge fan of the Coven side of DE except for Talos, I don't really take Wracks or Grots but this is definitely an issue that's come up in Competitive lists. If you've seen any of Goonhammer's Tournament list analysis articles you'll see that nearly every list that's mentioned has at least one detachment of DT Liquifiers. It makes me wonder if people will still take Coven (competitively) if they nerf DT

For those stumbling upon this thread hereafter, we've learned the following from the recent Warhammer Community article:

  • The deadly combination described in the OP has been FAQ'd out, it no longer works
  • Brother Trawler is in fact a wizard with the gift of prescience

I can't get over how it almost uses your exact wording, Brother. That cracked me up.

And the tournament circuits breathed a collected sigh of relief. It was definitely a very welcome surprise to see such a measured and thought out response from GW, having previously been so heavy handed.

Will this kill Dark Technomancers? Possibly? It definitely opens the door for other Covens to take top slot
