Hey guys

i want to paint my phobos scout list in a very dark blue, more to show lack of light than it being a dark colour if that makes sense.

This will give me room to play around with OSL

im looking for pics od dark UMs for inspiration, was wondering if anyone had any they could post for me please?

Doesn't really suit phobos, but have a look at UM destroyers from HH, think they wore black, could give a few ideas as to where to go.

How does it not suit Phobos? I was actually planning to paint my infiltrators, eradicators and the like with black armor and just a blue shoulder pad with the chapter badge on it. Suits the recon guys way better, I think. Reivers, being shock troops, are the exception in all blue.

I just don't think of phobos as 'destroyers'. Maybe should've worded it better?

Oh, I don't either. I think the Reivers are far more in vein of the destroyers of old.

But I never like the idea of scout units running around in bright livery - sure, tech-magic can explain it away. But I think I'm going to paint all Phobos elements in a more Deathwatch/chaplain style, with dark armor but for the left shoulder. On the other hand I'll then end up with dark armor and dark weapon casings, which makes for a pretty boring look...hm. Gotta put some more thought into this.

Great crusade what color of blue did you use?     When I put what I have painted in last 18 months using Maccrage blue next to what i painted 5-6 years ago using UM blue there is a difference.  The old  UM blue is much lighter than Maccrage blue.   I believe that happened when GW changed the names of the colors.     Pardon my spelling.

i decided not to use washes and keep them dark by working down from a black undercoat, satrted with regal blue, then macragge blue and edge highlight with old UM blue (which is lighter than macragge)

Kantor blue is actually a tone darker then the Macragge blue. I am currently painting my Adeptus Titanicus Preasagius Legio (white blue gold) and opted for Kantor blue as a base as its darker, then apply Macragge and end with Ultramarines.

The old Ultramarine blue (which vallejo still sells) is actually a tone brighter then Macragge as noted above.

The model looks really clean and nice. No complaints there ;).
