"Ithak-ja" - A Tallarn Auxilla WIP

Recommended Posts

So after lurking here for what seems like forever, I've decided to throw my proverbial hat into the ring of Horus Heresy. Now im sure we all have our favourite warzones of the heresy ranging from the very start on Istvaan all the way to the bright shiny gates of terra itself, personally I've always had the softies for the Battle of Tallarn. I mean just the idea of massed tank combat on a global scale used to blow my mind when I read the small little blurb on the matter in the Imperial Guard codex's. And when black library released the Heresy books on the matter you could have called me well and truly settled on who and where I was doing for heresy.

Now ill confess im slow as hell when it comes to painting so this won't be the fastest wip ever to exist. But I just hope that I can at least do it justice haha. So I suppose with that out the way I can at least show you a few pictures of where I'm at the moment:

Armoured companies are awesome and yours looks off to a good start, I'm looking forward to this!

Haha thank you very much! Cant disagree with you at all, armoured companies are probably one of the coolest things on the tabletop imo.

Always a treat to see nicely painted tanks! Tallarn is an ideal project for armoured companies; shame not to see more.

Greatly appreciated! I think with the introduction of Armoured Breakthrough many eons ago it certainly spiked the amount of armour in my local gaming club. However I do feel it abit criminal that neither Militia or Auxilia can do a full armoured company in the same vein as marines do.

Eeey, that's some great armour, in the camo style of Tallarn-that-was?

Thank you very muchly. And well my headcannon for this scheme is that they are an Auxilia Armoured Regiment already station on Tallarn prior to Percy dropping the virus bombs. So they've kept their camo scheme from prior to the bombs dropping due to lack of real necessity to change it. Honestly got a fair few ideas in my head for fluff but just need to sit down and write it. In truth I've always had a soft spot for German WW2 ambush camo and since I've only started using an airbrush 4 months ago I figured why not.

On that note I've had another spout of productivity today. Managed to get some more paint on another Leman russ and got it to the same stage (albeit tracks which im planning on doing tomorrow) as the other 2 leman russes. They still need an oil pin wash and weathering powder but just waiting on transfers to show up. Then I can crack on with getting the painful part of infantry out the way before getting back to the fun part of painting steel behemoths.

And finally a pic of what I have planned to crack on with next week while I'm stuck in isolation. Got a converted Storm Section, Choom Carnodon and a Leman Russ I'd ideally like to get a bit done before next Sunday

I swear its a good job I don't claim to be a fast painter or else I'd be out of a job faster then a gardener on Calth!

Well its definitely been a hectic couple of months irl for myself with moving house and in the progress of getting a new job. However I havent been completely bone idle on this project! I've managed to get the time to actually start working with oil based weathering effects to get that "rugged tallarn look" that im after. Its certainly early days since I'm completely new with the technique but hopefully the more I use it, the better it'll become!

So this was the first side I did, compared to the other i do certainly feel that I didn't go as heavily as perhaps I should have.

And the other side:

Now heres the query I'd like to put out, on my Tank with Side Skirts. I've done the oil pin wash on the hull itself, but should I put the oil on the skirts too?

Tune in next millennium where I actually sit down and write out the fluff for this Project
