Isstvan III Loyalist Loadouts

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, currently planning a new project (weighing up either Isstvan III or Siege of Terra, either way it will be narratively-driven to recreate characters from the Black Library books), but don't have the first few Horus Heresy novels on me, so was wondering if anyone could help me with the following for if I do Isstvan III?

1. What wargear does Tarik Torgaddon carry? I'm thinking of kitbashing a model to represent him. The Horus Heresy: Legions artwork for him (viewable on his lexicanum page) has him in Mark IV armour with the Eye of Horus Insignia and cloak, while carrying a chainsword and having a Mark IV helmet and crest. Is this consistent with his depiction in the books?

2. I'm wondering if the wargear of Nero Vipus is described at all. Is what type of armour he wears mentioned, or his wargear? Additionally, is Squad Locasta's loadout at the time of Isstvan III mentioned? (I.E., are they just armed with bolters, or do they have more special weapons mixed in there too?)

3. Is it specified what wargear Captain Ehrlen (the World Eater) carried?

4. Finally, wondering what descriptions of wargear and armour Solomon Demeter has?

Thanks in advance guys, it's been years since I read those books and it's going to be a while before I can grab my copies again so I'm depending on the internet for this one :)

PS, what's up with Saul Tarvitz? As far as I can tell, the guy has been sold out since he went up for pre-order on Christmas day and hasn't become available again since

1, Tarik like Loken is described as using a chainsword and equipped with Mark IV armor.  No mention of him having a crest, but official art is so inconsistent with the books, especially the older books, so :unsure.:     Since Loken's HH rules give him a Paragon blade even though his model wields a chainsword, you may want to do the same.

2.  One member of Squad Locasta is described as wielding a flamer, but I do not recall if they were named

3.  Ehrlen used a chainaxe

4. Solomon is specifically described as wielding a bolter and  a power sword modified for a two handed grip.

Hope that helps!

I believe Solomon Demeter used a chainsword, not a regular sword – excerpt from Fulgrim by Graham McNeill:

„[…] Solomon knew that time for guns was over. He placed his bolter on the ground with reverent care and drew his chainblade from its sheath across his back. Like his bolter, he had extensively modified his sword in the Pride of the Emperor’s armouries under the stern gaze of Marius Vairosean. The blade and grip of the weapon had been lengthened to increase his reach and to allow him to wield the blade two handed. The quillons were fashioned in the form of upswept wings and the pommel bore a majestic eagle’s head.”

Anyway, looks like a Paragon Blade to me – weird that chainswords go from Ap- to Ap2 the second an independent character draws them… But this description allows for some nice conversion.

I think the novels heavily imply the whole legion travelling with Horus have been upgraded to mark iv. Like when they land on Murder, I think it’s Tarik who comments that the eye lens they found can’t be one of theirs, it’s the wrong shape (ie it’s mark iii and hence evidence of the Blood Angels).
