Storm shields and assault cannons

When building IF termies with storm shields do you run any assault cannons in there? Why/why not?

 

What close combat weapons do you take with them? All hammers? Some gauntlets? Any axes?

 

On the subject of gauntlets, how do you guys model them on termies?

No because if thats going to be the ONLY shooting in the unit, save the points, get a stormshield instead for another 3++ body they have to chew through.

 

Weapons are preferrably: Power Fists with 1in3 Chainfists. If youre going up against a lot of MCs and/or Primarchs, Thunderhammers for Concussive. Axes only if youre on a budget or, if youre like me, already modeled them on.

 

Solarite Power Gauntlets can only be taken on HQs and Templar Brethren Champions but to signify them I just paint whatever power fist I end up giving them gold.

Damn I thought it was a generic thing for gauntlets, if you can buy them a TH you could give them a gauntlet instead. Good job you put me on the right path!

 

OK so forget the cannons, I'll have to find another termie squad to put them on.

 

I'd like a TH or 2, just to signify which is the Sgt, any suggestions on a specific one to use?

 

I ask because I don't like the 40k hammers, the terminator specific one from FW seems a bit meh, and whilst I like the look of the mk3 head, the shaft looks very thin in the hands of a terminator.

Yeah, for Assault Cannons, an idea could be for a squad with 2x Cannons and the rest having Combi Grenades (since theyre unlimited uses) and just pumping out consistent S6 Ap4 shots. Its not the drop down and nuke a thing of Melta or Plasma but since theyre not one-use weapons, its more sustained firepower over a longer period.

 

For Thunderhammers, I cant really help beyond just taking a look at the various ranges and looking for cool hammer bits.

 

You could take a TH on a Sarge esp if theyre at risk of being in a challenge with something they can Concuss. but otherwise, hiding them in the squad can be useful to void losing them early.

Nope fists and chainfists. 3 chain, 7 fists.

I feel, at least vs mechanicum. They are mostly used to tie down scoria for a few turns. Like I think I kostly use them as a tough tarpit moreso than to do a lot of damage.

Combi grenades aren't single use??

 

Man I really need to start reading the rules :biggrin.:

 

That sounds like an absolute blast! Imagine a squad of those bad boys plus assault cannons moving down a zone mortalis corridor.

 

Cheers for the info Marshal, you not use and thunder hammers then?

Dont forget, with Combi-Grenades, you get both Frag and Krak grenades so in ZM specifically, this allows you do dump frag shots (which are small blasts) that now gain Shred onto tightly packed units.

While IF get most of the best tools for their terminators the Dark Angels do get better combi grenade launchers as they get stasis. Regular combi grenades are versatile tools so I highly rate at least a few in a unit.
